Elephant Walk
Continued from Page 1
underclassmen will get involved with Ele
phant Walk.
“I think it’s still going to happen,” Sonya
Lehmann, education subchair for the Tradi
tions Council, said. “The class of ‘96 saw it
happen when they were freshmen and it
was still bad. So they think that the tradi
tion is to grode out the seniors.”
Horseplay between juniors and seniors
has been a problem in the past.
“There is a lot of horseplay in the Corps,”
Felicia Miller, public relations co-chair for
the Class of ‘96, said. “If it does go on, it will
happen on the quad in their own territory.
It’s hard to deter because it’s on the quad.
Hopefully it won’t encourage others.”
Others are optimistic that Elephant
Walk-Old Army Style will become a
tradition.
“We’ve been so successful with the past,”
Billy Pickard, associate director for facili
ties, said. “When we have a year with no
trouble, that should be a tradition.”
All of the meeting’s participants
have hopes of a successful Elephant
Walk this year.
“From personal experience, every year
it’s going to get better,” Lehmann said.
The Class of ‘96 Council is in the process
of planning events for juniors to be a part of
during the walk.
Tentatively some of the plans are for
the juniors to meet at Bonfire sight
where there will be a motivational
speaker. There will be a yell practice led
by the junior yell leaders.
They may have a picture on Kyle Field
in the shape of ‘96. The committee has also
thought about doing a service project where
canned food would be collected on the way
in to Kyle Field.
The idea is for the juniors to have some
thing to do to keep them away from the se
niors for the day.
“We won’t know the route of the seniors
Miller said. “But we will know where*:
can’t be.”
The juniors are also working to imp^
Elephant Walk from the past.
“We’re trying to work towards a cleu
Elephant Walk,” Miller said. “We’re talrint
major steps with the T-shirt design andFft
We feel it will be better than it hasbeenj-
the past.”
The Class of ’96 is working with the 01
Army idea for Elephant Walk.
“We’re trying to go back to the way;
used to be,” Miller said. “We want it
up there with Muster and Silver Taps.’
