ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) —
Joey Galloway caught a record
67-yard touchdown pass and
scored on a showy reverse
Monday night as No. 20 Ohio
State beat Fresno State 34-10
in the Pigskin Classic.
Galloway, a wide receiver
who is one of four returning
starters on offense, starred in
the second half after teammate
Eddie George dominated the
game’s opening 30 minutes
with two 1-yard TD runs.

“It is not the player’s fault
that almost half of the owners
are about to go bankrupt. No
body forced them to pay such
high salaries. They can insti
tute revenue sharing without
the aid of a salary cap.”
(We’d rather let the league
fold than give up any part of
our salaries. Fringe benefits
such as meal money and trav
el expenses really don’t add
up to much. Besides, if all the
teams have the same amount
of money to spend, some guys
are going to have to play for
Milwaukee for quite a few
years.)
“You know guys, you both
have some really great points,
but I really can’t decide. I
think you’re just going to
have to work it out amongst
yourselves.”

yards on 24 carries and the two
touchdowns. He carried seven
straight times on the Buck
eyes’ opening drive, culminat
ing in a 1-yard plunge over the
middle for his first touchdown.
The Buckeyes, 10-1-1 last
season with a victory over
Brigham Young in the Holiday
Bowl, scored on three of their
first four possessions.
Tim Patillo intercepted
Adrian Claiborne’s pass at the
Ohio State 33 and 11 seconds
later, Bobby Hoying connected
with Galloway for the record
67-yard scoring pass for a 14-0
lead with 2:03 remaining in
the first quarter.
On Ohio State’s previous
possession, Scott Terna set a
game record with a 54-yard
punt.
Hoying was I0-for-16 for
194 yards and the long touch
down.
Fresno State managed just
three plays on its next posses
sion before Jon Williams was
forced to punt from the C
State 42.
George took over the ball,
running on seven of Ohio
State’s next nine plays en
route to another 1-yard charge
up the middle and a 21-0 lead.
Josh Jackson’s 24-yard field
goal increased Ohio State’s
lead to 24-7 in the opening
minutes of the third quarter.
Galloway showed off his
running ability on his second
TD. He started left, then re
versed his field around the
right end for an 8-yard score
and a 31-10 lead at 12:00 it
the third. Jackson added a 33'
yard field goal to make it 34-1(1
with 6:17 to play.
The Bulldogs, 8-4 last sea
son, had to replace quarter
back Trent Dilfer, a first-round
draft pick of the Tampa Baj
Buccaneers. Claiborne, a red
shirt sophomore, completed;
4-yard pass to Michael
Pittman for Fresno State’s
TD at 5:49 of the second quar
ter.
Claiborne finished 12-for-l
for 139 yards. Pittsman had 13
yards on 25 carries.

Senior wide receiver Chris
Sanders says he sees Pullig step
ping up and carrying some re
sponsibility on his shoulders.
“Corey is starting to be that
leader,” said Sanders. “He’s
starting to get on us more about
running routes and doing the lit
tle things.”
Fkdlig, who threw 300 passes
a day over the summer, says this
season’s attack will not differ too
much from last year’s offense.
The big change will happen in
the number of big play opportu
nities that could come about.
Pullig says the running game
and short pass plays have to be
successful before a true passing
game can open up.
“Once we establish the under
neath game then we’ll be able to
go over the top,” F*ullig said.

“I think the offensive line is
going to surprise a lot of people.'
Pullig said. “One thing they've

Pullig insists that the team

“We’ve got a lot of competitor

thing that will come out is thi

our players.”
