ings and instincts,” he said. “Pay attention to
behavior that’s not right, and never be ashamed
to assert yourself and say no.”
He said many times women feel ashamed or
embarrassed to say no.
“Women don’t always identify a date as
rape,” Kretzschmar said. “They feel guilty
and betrayed, but don’t want mom and dad to
know.”
A&M has many support organizations for
sexual assault victims.
Theis-Cole said there is 24-hour assistance
available for victims.
“First they are taken to the hospital for treat
ment, and if they wish to go through student
conflict resolution, our staff would be there to
assist them,” she said.
Kretzschmar said students should take ad
vantage of the rape crisis center, student af
fairs and student counseling when confronted
with a problem.
“The student counseling services are excel
lent and are here specifically to help studen!
he said.
Kretzschmar said self-defense classes also a
be beneficial.
“Self-defense classes make females moi!
aware of what is going on around them," fo
zschmar said. “If something were to happe:
they would be more apt to have a plan
spond.”
The department of student affairs encoungt
students to take advantage of campus escortse
vices rather than walk alone at night.

1993-94 UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE FELLOWS
SYMPOSIUM PRESENTATIONS
The University Undergraduate Fellows Program is the capstone of the Honors curriculum at Texas A&M. This
program is the most prestigious research opportunity available for undergraduates at the University featuring a close
master-apprentice relationship between student researcher and faculty advisor.
Shortly after Fellows submit their completed Senior Honors Theses, they are invited to make formal oral presentations
of their completed research at the annual University Undergraduate Fellows Symposium. This year the Fellows have
been divided into ten groups of students pursuing research in related areas. Each group will conduct a separate
Symposium session on the fifth floor of Rudder Tower according to the following schedule:
Monday, April 25th
Wednesday, April 27th
