Page 6 The Battalion Friday, April 15, l)j| 1 Bowen Continued from Page 1 sity student senate chairman, said Bowen was a student oriented president. “In the past, he would set aside days just to talk to students and gather their opinions on issues af fecting our campus,” Matthews said. “He makes a real effort to in teract with students.” Bowen said he plans to main tain an open-door policy with stu dents when he arrives at Texas A&M. Matthews, who described OSU as the most conservative school in the Big 8 Conference, said Bowen changed the atmosphere of the university. “The atmosphere surrounding the university was very repressed when Dr. Bowen came in,” Matthews said. “But he came in with a positive attitude about the job and the atmosphere of the university changed.” Matthews said Bowen would be missed. “We really enjoyed Dr. Bowen the time he was here and congrat ulate your university on getting a very fine administrator,” he said. Leslie will appoint committee members after the selection of her vice presidents this weekend. Problems arose during the re cent elections after Will Haraway, commander of the Corps of Cadets, circulated a memo among cadets with the names of all students and cadets running for office. Questions also surfaced when some candidate’s names were scratched off voter packets dur ing the voting. Crain said the four students who were caught scratching off names will not receive any fur ther punishment from Student Government or the election com mission. “As far as we’re concerned, the punishment came when their ballots were not counted,” Crain said. “To me the issue dies when they are unable to voice theii opinion.” Thomas Darling, Corps com mandant, said no punishment is being pursued at this time against tne three cadets who were caught scratching off names. He said the issue is currently in the hands of Haraway anii James McCleskey, chief of opera-i tions and training whoisin) charge of the Corps Honotj Board. Darling said their guilt is still' to be determined. “If the charges are substantial-1 ed, then some action should be; taken,” he said. .! “What people need to: realize is that there: are going to be loop* holes no matter what the regulations say.” — Michael Craw h election commissioner Darling said he thinks changes- in the regulations are in order, and the Corps will be responsive! to any changes that are made. | “I would predict they will; comply with any new regula-; tions,” he said. “The Corps will remain inter-, ested and involved in the election: process.” Darling said it is important; that the elections be left in the; hands of the students. “This is a student-led, stu dent-organized event. We should leave this to the students,” Dar-: ling said.
