mmm Page 6 The Battalion Tuesday, March2)J Israeli troops stall peace talks after killing 6 Palestinians The Associated Press JABALIYA REFUGEE CAMP, Occupied Gaza Strip — Israeli undercover troops killed six senior members of the PLO’s military wing Monday in the Gaza Strip, violence that threatened to jeopardize attempts to revive Is- rael-PLO peace talks. In a sign of Israeli determination to move forward with Palestinian autonomy, Israeli media reported the army will be ready to pull out of Gaza by April 14. The shooting left the highest one-day death toll in the occupied lands since the Feb. 25 massacre at a Hebron mosque that killed 30. The army said the six dead were senior members of the Fatah Hawks, the military wing of Yasser Arafat’s mainstream PLO or ganization. They were still sought by the army despite the nearly 6-month-old peace agreement. Arafat charged in an interview with The Associated Press in Tunisia that the killings were a deliberate attempt by some elements in the Israeli army to derail the peace process. Before the shooting, the six were distrib uting leaflets in the Jabaliya refugee camp criticizing the PLO for trying to return to talks on starting Palestinian self-rule in Gaza and part of the West Bank. Suddenly, about seven Israeli undercover soldiers in two cars opened fire, killing four men instandy, witnesses said.
