Page 4 The Battalion Deaf student sexually assaulted by teen-ager The Associated Press AUSTIN — An 18-year-old deaf student was beaten and raped by a 16-year-old boy while two other teen-agers watched, police said. The assailant has been arrested and re ferred to the Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center, Austin police Sgt. Sam Bass said Monday. The two other teens, ages 18 and 19, who witnessed the assault early Sunday, were re leased pending further investigation because they cooperated with police, Bass said. The victim, who is a student at the Texas School for the Deaf, was visiting her father at his apartment at a south Austin motel when the attack occurred, her father said. The teens checked into the hotel Saturday evening and asked if there were any porno graphic videos to rent, according to Andrew Schwartz, the front desk clerk. The victim's father said she was taking out the trash when she met the teens outside and they began writing notes back and forth. Because it was cold outside, she then went into the boys' motel room, her father said. "They locked the door ... She tried to leave and that's when (the sexual assault) hap pened," her father said. The victim said that her assailant beat her and threw beer bottles at her. She was hospitalized briefly, her father said. She had two black eyes and a swollen face Monday. "After they were finished with her, they let her go," her father said. The victim ran to her father's apartment. The father said he flagged down a passing fire truck, and saw three teens cross South Congress Avenue and head for the bus stop. The firefighters and the girl's father de tained the teens until the police came. Bass said the 16-year-old had pending ju venile arrest warrants in Dallas.
