Cowboys, 49ers
meet for rematch!
The Associated Press
IRVING - Troy AikmanU
Sunday's showdown withtheSa:!
Francisco 49ers in this perspetj
tive: "It's as important as an!
game can get in October."
The Dallas Cowboys wantll
know how far they've progressfj
since a 0-2 start and they figinj
the 49ers will let them knowipj
the Texas Stadium rematcht
NFC title opponents. TheCow|
boys are six-point favorites.
The Super Bowl champio-l
Cowboys and the 49ers, who IcT
30-20 in the NFC championshi;!
game, have had their problems;!
they've each posted 3-2 ledgers
At least both teams still havl
their starting quarterbacks. Aid
man has various injuries but he l
in the lineup as is 49ersStev;[
Young, who broke a thumb on hil
passing hand in the preseason.
"This is a special game,"Ail{
man said. "The last time nl
played them we were the undrl
dogs trying to make a name!
Now, the NFL looks at us<
ently. It's not a must-win gair.:[
hut it's big. It's not makeorbreal

they have a ^reat defense."
Of Baylors four wins thisse
son, three of those have beet
come-from-hehind wins fc:|
Bears.
That is a quality that Dausrl
said the Aggies must be war}’
during Saturday's game.
"When you have a teamli
that, it shows you they haveakl
of character," he said. "We car I
let up on them. You can't under
estimate them at all so when you
get up by seven or 14 point; 1
You can't let loose, you nave:;|
keep on pounding."
A&M notes: Senior offensiwl
tackle Jason Mathews will pla;
on Saturday with a broken hai i ;|
that he suffered in practicec
Tuesday... Also, junior insid-
linebacker Larry Jackson will»:|
play on Saturday due to:|
sprained ankle.

Uv,
the
hack to the inside during the ft
nal stages of two-a-days. Jack-
son started the season, but he
has been bothered by a bad an
kle. Graham returned to the
starting lineup against Mis
souri.
And his shadow, expecta
tions, has been keeping a close
eye.
"I feel better at the inside
position," Graham said
to play smash-mouth
and plug the holes. I know
can be a good linebacker, and 1
have a lot to prove to m
and my teammates.
"Now, I have the opportuni-
ty"
Since Graham was reinsert
ed as a starter, his play has im
proved dramatically. Last
year, he looked tentative and
confused at times.
This season, he has been all
over the field, showing the
skills that made A&M coaches
gunpoint him as Coryatt's heir
Graham is the third leading
tackier on the team with 30. He
has sacked the quarterback five
times, an unusually high num
ber for an A&M inside line
backer.
A&M head coach R.C
Slocum said Graham played
the best game of his career last
Saturday against the University
of Houston. He registered 1-
tackles to go along with one
quarterback slam.
But the Cougars are not as
physical as tomorrow's oppo
nent, the Bay for Bears. The
Bears have one philosophy: h
at first you don't succeed run
ning the ball, run it again.
Against Southern Methods
last Saturday, the Bears
showed their offensive versatil-
ity by running the balH-
straight times.
Not one pass.
"Baylor considers itself 2
gihysical team," Graham said-
"They run the running bach
and linemen right at you
That's great by me.
"It will give me a chance K
make tackles."
Talk about a perfect situa
tion. Huh, Reggie?
"Unless I hit somebody/ 1
don't think the play is oven
and I think I will have plenty 0 )
opportunities against Baylot
Graham said. "I take a straigf
angle to the ball, and their run
ning backs plow right at you.
if 1 have to jump over gu}
to get the job done, then so b
it. For me, I can never g' vt
up."
Take that, expectations.
