The computer hardware, provided by Fort Flood in Killeen and Fort Sam Hous ton in San Antonio, will be utilized bv land developers so they can avoid build ing where endangered species live. In the past, Parks and Wildlife em ployees had to use hand-drawn maps to answer about 600 questions a month from developers and environmentalists, said Larry McKinney, the agency's re source protection director. "We have all this information in our department, but getting it to people and responding to those 600 inquiries a month has been very difficult,” McKin ney said. "If you have a computer and a tele phone modem, wherever you are, you'll be able to call in and get this informa tion/' he said. "It's a simple thing, but unbelievably important.” Andrew Sansom, parks and wildlife executive director, said the department is trying to quit concentrating on partic ular species. "What we need to do is focus on eco logical systems, and that's what this pro gram will enable us to do,” Sansom said. en bioengi- iajor at ned one op Ten e maga- ‘ for her er-tissue ented at ■ Center ’th le /orth, a Texas e Inter- usiness confer- ner arti- tions in ore the re." a win- Quill" ; tried 5. to th ii <.t 4 LJ ditor itor editor (Offer expires only when you do.) lik, Carrie d Joe Leih Scroggs, and semesters leriods), iJt Jniversity. )ivision of vIcDonald rising, iy through To charge Get an AT&T Universal MasterCard and you’ll be eternally grateful.
