COME BY BETWEEN 10 AM TO 4 PM o Lady Aggies spear Cardinals in volleyball U'ednesd From Staff and Wire Reports The Texas A&M Lady Aggie volleyball team beat the Lamar Cardinals three games out of four Wednesday night at McDonald Gym in Beaumont in front of 409 people. The match was Lamar's season opener. After dropping the first game 15-17, the Aggies reeled off three straight victories by scores of 15-2, 15-11 and 15-12. Senior outside hitter Sheila Morgan led the team with 28 kills followed by fellow senior Kim Mitchell who had 14. Mitchell also had two service aces. Senior middle blocker Amy Kisling had a success ful game as she shined both offensively and defen sively. Although third in the number of kills, she had the team's best hitting percentage with .478. Mithcell was a close second with a .462 percentage. Kisling also led the team with three solo blocks and one block assist. Her eight digs were only sec ond to senior Genny Wood, setter and outside hitter, who grabbed nine. A&M upped its season record to 4-1 after coming out of their season debut at the Dan Gamel Invita tional with a 3-1 record and a second-place trophy. For , Mickens, Glenn is a teacher as ‘ well as a friend.— —» "I look at him for help and to lead me because he's been there before," Mickens said. "I look to him to help me in bad situations, but on the field, of course, we def initely have a competition among ourselves." The tandem of Glenn and Mickens has been talked about as being one of the premier corner- back combinations in the confer ence , but Mickens is keeping a level head and admits he's still got a long way to go. "I've got to work more on my technique and I've got to focus in on it more," Mickens said. "I just want to have a solid season and I'd like to try and perfect my style and make necessary corrections. I want to play my best all the time, but I've still got a lot to work on." During the next three seasons, Mickens hopes to add his own fla vor to the A&M defense, but his ultimate goal is to emulate those who have come before him. "I want to contribute my own style to the defense," Mickens said, "But obviously I want to contribute YiT
