The Battalion
The summer of 1993 will long
be remembered for the record hot
temperatures, but this summer
will also be remembered for the
hot country music on the radio
and in the record stores. And
country music's forecast for the
fall looks even hotter.
The pick albums for this sum
mer include Patty Loveless',
"Only What I Fell," Clint Black's
"No Time to Kill," Mark Ches-
nutt's "Almost Goodbye" and
newcomer Lari White's debut re
lease "Lead Me Not."
• "Only What 1 Feel" marks
Patty Loveless' first Epic release
and takes its place as one of the
best female vocal efforts to come
out of Nashville this year. Top
cuts from this alum include the hit
singles, "Blame it on Your Heart"
and "Nothin' But the Wheel."
"'Only What I Feel' showcases
Patti Loveless' deep powerful
voice," King says.
King says "Don't miss Lari White's
debut album, 'Lead Me Not.'"
"What's a Broken Heart" and
"How Can I help You Say Good
bye" also showcase Loveless'
powerful voice and deep emotion
al interpretation.
• Clint Black came back in full
force this summer with the RCA
release "No Time to Kill." An al
bum that finally stands up to the
lyrical and vocal strength of his
1988 debut, "Killin' Time." A
writer or co-writer of every song
on the album. Black once again
proves he is a master o'f the musi
cal word. Pick hits like "Thinkiri'
Again," "Half the Man," "I'll Take
Texas" and "Happiness Alone"
are guaranteed to. leave Black's
fans coming back for more.
• Down-home traditional
country music is what Mark Ches-
nutt does best and MCA's July re
lease of "Almost Goodbye,"
proves it. Chesnutt does not re
ceive as much hype or publicity as
Clint Black, Garth Brooks, Alan
Hackson or some other well
known male vocalists; however,
Chesnutt has sudh a clear, easy lis
tening and honest voice, it's hard
to ignore such pure country tal
ent. Songs to listen for from this
Beaumont performer include "It
sure is Monday," "Almost Good
bye," "Till a Better Memory
Comes Along" and "The Will."
• An album not to be missed is
"Lead Me Not," the debut release
from Florida newcomer Lari
White. Her vocal, musical and-
lyrical talent flows throughout the
entire album. White wrote or co
wrote eight of the ten cuts on
"Lead Me Not." White's sweet
and sexy, "I Was Just Thinking of
18, 19 & 20 year olds
admitted every night
