Fortunately, God has already judged and his judgments can be found in His Word- the Bible. I would like to give the opinion of Biblical scholars with the follow ing footnote to Romans 1:26-7 tak en from the New International Version of the Life Application Bible. "Homosexuality . . . was as widespread in Paul s days as it is in ours . . . God is willing to re ceive anyone who comes to him in faith and Christians should love and accept others no matter what their background. Yet, homosexu ality is strictly forbidden in scrip ture (Leviticus 18:22), which states "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, that is detestable." Homosexuality is considered an acceptable practice by many in our world today- even by some churches. But society does not set the standard for God's law. Many homosexuals believe that their de sires are normal and that they have the right to express them. But God does not obligate nor en courage us to fulfill all out de- sires(even normal ones), those de sires that violate his laws must be controlled. If you have these desires, you can and must resist acting upon them. Consciously avoid places or activities you know will kindle temptations of this kind. Don't underestimate the power of Satan to tempt . . . seek prayer, Bible study, Christian support and Bib lical counseling to resist these temptations. Remember God can and will forgive sexual sins just as he forgives other sins. Surrender yourself to the grace and mercy of God, asking him to show you the way out of sin and into the light of his freedom and his love. Steve Duncan Class of '93 •I am unsure as to what of fends me most about the recent surge of gay-bashing both here at Texas A&M and abroad; whether it is people's lack of focus on more relevant issues than a person's sexual orientation or whether it is their exalted impression that their views, and only their views are correct. Erik Wagner's inclusion of his phone number to prove "in person" that his views are correct is just one example. It seems that every article con cerned with homosexuality begins with "I believe," and ends with "I know it's wrong." Is it impossible to imagine that people do not all share the same viewpoints? Is it impossible to realize that people's viewpoints, just because they dif fer are not wrong? I am not condemning people's opposition to homosexuality. Right and wrong seem to me to be words that should be used to de scribe the death penalty, pollu tion, human rights' violations and other such things that involve conscious negative decisions that affect others in negative ways. Homosexuality is not a "condi tion" and it is not a "sin". It is a way of life, a way of loving some one else, much like heterosexuali ty. How can loving someone be considered "wrong?' One cannot legitimately compare the homo sexual lifestyle to that of "prosti- hk cent letter. And arguments about laws against homosexuality don't stand either. True such laws exist, but there is an equally useless Texas law against carrying wire cutters in you back pocket. Okla homa has a law against any sexual position other than the missionary position. Everyone has outgrown these laws, but hasn't wasted the time to negate them. My most fervent wish is that people would spend as much time debating the greenhouse effect, poverty levels, AIDS, human rights' violations and a score of more life-threatening issues. Whether or not you personally agree with the concept of homo sexuality, it does exist and will continue to exist. I hope that people will rise to the occasion; to educate them selves about homosexuality and make a personal decision about whether or not it is a lifestyle choice for them as an individual. Then I hope that people will put aside their differences in sexual orientation and join forces to im prove the world for the future. Kelly O'Keefe Class of '96 Student gov't: listen to Feducia tution," as Wagner did in his re- While taking a nostalgic walk through the campus last weekend, I noticed a few remaining cam paign signs still standing in the usual places. I wondered who had won and if I had met them when I was a student there. I was also re minded of the elections I had just witnessed at the university that I now attend and wondered if they were comparable. Stacy Feducia's opinion, "A&M women, the joke's on you" provided me with the an swer I expected — a definite NO! If what Feducia reported was accurate, I am not surprised that gender and minority issues were not addressed in the student cam paigns. The foul taste that A&M left in my mouth was only rein forced by this report.
