The cadets appealed the ruling. Taylor, who was listed on the memorandum and therefore fined, said the penalty, if en forced, should not push his cam paign expenditures over regula tion levels. "Tm not really worried about fines throwing me over budget," he said. "It's not a concern right now." Throughout the campaign. Walker has emphasized making student government more ac countable to students and create programs to bolster acceptance of multiculturalism. Since three Texas A&M System schools were given the A&M name last month. Walker has said he will oppose any action that would allow students from other system schools to order an Aggie ring. Taylor has said multicultural ism is the most important issue facing the student body. During his campaign, he has called for student government to assume a leadership role to increase sensi tivity and awareness of other cul tures on campus. Both candidates said they will continue to promote their plat forms until the election. "I have high hopes about the runoff," Walker said. "We're tak ing it one step at a time. We have accomplished one goal, and now we have one more to go." Taylor said he has one objec tive to pursue.
