"The last game of the season
we had got beat by Pittsburgh
by 25 points," Buonaguro said.
"Nobody expected us to get as
far as we did, so we kind of
snuck up on people.
"Every game we played was
close, but I think we arrived
when we beat North Carolina
to go to the Final Four. Any
time when you can beat Caroli
na is a tremendous feeling.
"That had been a goal of the
team to get that far, which we
did. But there was another goal
that we wanted to accomplish."
And that point was driven
home by Massimino.
"Rollie kept saying how
great it was get there, but we
wanted to win it all," Buon
aguro said. "All the other stuff
like us making it that far was
good, but it would have been
disappointing if we had not
won it all."
Villanova was led by three
seniors - center Ed Pinckney
and the McClain brothers,
guard Gary and forward
Dwayne McClain.
Buonaguro said those three
made the difference.
"Those guys had a shot at
making history," he said.
"They had been together for a
long time, and they had been
talking about winning a nation
al title since their freshman
year."
The Wildcats won their title
in Lexington, Ky. So who does
Buonaguro think will join Vil
lanova in the record books?
"Kentucky, most definitely,"
he predicts. "I think the Michi-
gan-Kentucky game on Satur
day could be one of the all-time
great games."

co-captain is now in second place
behind Chuck Knoublauch in all-
time steals at A&M.
The Aggies are currently tied
with Texas Tech for first place in
the SWC with a 5-1 conference
record. Lee Fedora is tied with
Mark Martin of Baylor for the best
batting average in conference
play, hitting at a .500 clip.

"A&M has talent backed-up."
Mickens added his views on
who he
thought has
performed
well and the
reason for the
high-octane
showing.
"(Red shirt
freshmen) Ty-
pail McMullen
and Andre
Williams are
doing a good
job," Mickens
said. "One thing we have been
trying to do is visualize what is
going on in practice and then see
what we can do to get better.
"We have versatile athletes
who are able to adapt."
Walters said he thinks A&M
will be able to go two-deep at all
four positions in the secondary,
with the second team being just a
notch below the first team.
"I think the second groupwi
eventually be just as goodasou
first-team guys," Walters said
"That would be perfect."
With the season opener agains
Louisiana State at Kyle Field ovet
six months away, A&M's set'
ondary has time to mature and
improve. But Mickens said that
in his preparation for the upcom
ing season, he has relied on souk
advice from a "Super" player.
"Ever since I have been hen
Derrick Frazier and (currentDai
las Cowboy) Kevin Smith hart
taught me the little things," Wid
ens said. "1 want to taketheii
teachings to the field andputitla
good use. 1
Mickens said he and a few team
mates have a goal to capitalize®
his tutoring sessions.
"Michael (Hendricks), junioi
(White) and myself want to beth
best in the Southwest Conferenct
and one of the elite (secondaries
in the nation," Mickens said. 1
we follow the lead of someofth
guys who pMayed here in the past
I don't see why we can't."
