will not try to prevent Clements 1

These changes were made to
reflect a stronger association with
the A&M system and will be effec
tive Sept. 1.
Brian Walker, speaker of the
Student Senate and candidate for
student body president, said some
students from Corpus Christi
State University have written to
Balfour, the company that makes
the Aggie ring, asking that they be
able to receive the ring as Aggies.
In response, the Association of
Former Students reminded Bal
four that the Aggie senior ring is
patented. Despite the patent.
Walker is still concerned students
from system schools could receive
a ring similar to the Aggie ring.

To prevent misunderstandings.
College Republican leaders want
to be forewarned of the content of
any literati*e that will be distrib
uted at future meetings, Poole
said.
Clements told The Battalion
Wednesday that the poem, which
criticized gays serving in the mili
tary, was intended to amuse the
people at the meeting.
The following is an excerpt
from the first four lines of the 16-
line poem: "Falling fairies from
the sky. I broke a nail, oh, I could
school to invalidate the patent,"
Walker said.
Richard Haas, class of '70 and
Association of Former Students
member, confirmed that both Bal
four and the ring office have re
ceived calls requesting senior
rings by students from CCSU and
Texas A&I. He said it is not fair to
give away the Aggie ring.
"The Aggie ring is recognized
across the room," he said. "Peo
ple understand the struggle and
sacrifice associated with the ring."
Walker and other concerned
Aggies have formed 12th MAN
(Maintaining the Aggie Name) to
prevent other schools from receiv
ing the A&M ring.
"I've heard nothing but nega
tive things from students towards
this," he said. "All I hear is hiss
ing when students are told that
Aggie rings may be given away."
"Students need to stand up to
say that Aggie rings shouldn't be
shared with other students," he
said.
Haas agreed, "To bestow the
honor of an Aggie ring on some
one who has not achieved it is
criminal, and it's fraud."
Sara Winston, director of stu
dent life at Corpus Christi State
University, said the only time this
issue has been brought up is when
the CCSU president spoke about

Playing as a true freshman last
year, Pullig led A&M to a 4-1
record and a Southwest Confer
ence championship. Pullig had
his best day in an A&M uniform
against Houston, completing 17
passes in 28 attempts for 272
yards.
Slocum believes Pullig's best
days are still ahead of him, but
the injury could slow his devel
opment.
"He had performed well this !!
spring and was getting better," _
Slocum said. "I was excited with
the way he was throwing the ball
and the way he had been han
dling things.
"I am concerned about him
missing the work," he said. "He
has not played any football since
January 1 in the Cotton Bowl,
Corey has had eight days plus
the games he played in as a true
freshman. But he did get in half
of the spring."

Getting the student regent is
the first step, then that regent
must prove his or her worth, he
said.
Turner said in a press release
that the Texas universities exist
for the students; therefore, stu
dents should be able to provide
input to the regents on decisions
which will directly affect them.
"Students spend hundreds of
dollars each semester on fees set
by their Board of Regents, but
have little opportunity for input
on these issues," he said. "Stu
dents should be able to voice their
opinions at the time when theft
gents are making such importau!
decisions."
Before reaching the Senate
floor, the Senate higher education
committee passed the bill
Wednesday by a vote of 11-0.
Kelley said he was unsure of
the bill's fate before the vote, bul
he said the bill passed becaused
the strong effort of Texas A&M
Student Body President Steve
Seller and Texas A&M student
lobbying group, the Legislative
Study Group.

Although the College Republi
