Auto thieves active in College Station
Sometime overnight Wednesday, Feb.
10 some vehicle thieves were busy in south
College Station.
At Britt Rice Electric in the 3000 block of
Longmire, the thieves forced their way
through a fence surrounding the storage
yard then broke into three trucks by
smashing out a window in each before
starting one and driving off.
The thieves also struck two other busi
nesses in the area by breaking into seven
other vehicles before getting one to start.
One of the vehicles that was stolen was
a two-tone brown 1981 Chevrolet Blazer
and the other was a brown 1980 CJ5 Jeep.
The Blazer was recovered near where
the other vehicle was stolen.
The Jeep was recovered in Bryan.
College Station Police detectives believe
the thieves should have been seen by
someone driving these vehicles around the
area.
This week the College Station Police De
partment and Crime Stoppers need your
help to identify the persons responsible for
this burglary.
If you have information that could be
helpful, call Crime Stoppers at 775-TIPS.
When you call, you will not have to give
your name.
Crime Stoppers will assign you a special
coded number that will be used to protect
your identity.
If your information leads to an arrest
and grand jury indictment. Crime Stoppers
will pay you up to $1,000 in cash.
Crime Stoppers also pays cash for infor
mation on any felony crime or the location
of any wanted fugitive.

He disagreed with burdening
later generations with nuclear
waste, especially when society
could easily eliminate the energy
source using new, innovative
sources.
Hydropower shows promise as
a new energy source, but prob
lems exist because flooding often
results from the damming of wa
terways, he said.
"There has to be a better way,"
he said. "We have to find it or
create it."
To create new power sources,
people must apply creativity to
currently existing technologies, he
said. If individuals are willing to
make the commitment, solar pan
els may provide the energy source
of the future, he said.
Childs said if public figures
were to show support for solar
power, the public would soon fol
low in their support.
"Did you know that Jimmy
Carter put solar panels on the
White House and Ronald Reagan
took them down," he said. "If
President Clinton was to put the
panels back on, that would be a
great symbolic gesture."
He said it will take broad ac
tion from the government, corpo
rations and other public interest
groups to make any drastic
change in the way the country
uses energy. But people can make
a difference on a local level, he
said.
"It is literally as simple as turn
ing off the light switch when you
leave the room," he said.

Last weekend in the three game sweep of
the University of Houston used all but four
pitchers in giving up 22 runs on 26 hits. But
the Aggie offense was up to task scoring 41
runs on 44 hits.
"Our pitchers could be tired because we
used an awful lot of them over the weekend,"
Head Coach Mark Johnson said. "I just hope
we don't have to use that many against Mary-
Hardin Baylor."
The Crusaders split a doubleheader earlier
this year with University of Texas and ended
last season as the runnerup in the NAIA
World Series.
"I really don't know that much about them
but from what I've heard they have an out
standing team," Johnson said. "They basically
still have the same team that went to the finals
last year so we will have to be ready."
In the Monday, March 29 polls, A&M
moved up one notch in both the Collegiate
Baseball and Baseball America polls. The Ag
gies are currently ranked No. 3 by Collegiate
Baseball and No. 4 by Baseball America.
A&M is now tied with the Texas Tech Red
Raiders for the lead in the Southwest Confer
ence after sweeping the Cougars. The Red
Raiders swept the Rice Owls to keep the top
spot.
This weekend the Aggies will take on Lub
bock Christian starting Friday night with a
double-header Saturday.
