and see this speech as important to their own
Plotkin said Thatcher's appearance at A&M is a
major event.
"How often does someone of her stature come
here? The chance to see Margaret Thatcher is a one
time shot at this university," she said.
Thatcher will respond to questions previously
submitted by audience members at the completion
of her speech.
Wiley members will choose what they believe are
the five best questions from the audience. The au-
/
thors of the selected questions will be given two
seats on the front row.
In 1983, after the MSC's first foreign policy
roundtable discussion, A&M graduates A.P. and
James Wiley decided to provide the MSC with an en
dowment that would help fund the lecture series.
The Wiley Lecture Series is open to all students
and accepts applications in the fall and spring se
mesters. Along with the annual spring program, the
organization sponsors smaller program symposiums
that focus on foreign policy issues.
To submit a question for Thatcher or for more in
formation about Friday's program, contact the MSC
Wiley Lecture Series at 845-1514. For ticket informa
tion, contact the MSC Box Office at 845-1234.

happy to carry the A&M medallion with him during
the shuttle mission.
"A&M is a well-recognized school and even while
at Purdue, I knew and heard about it," he said. "I
feel Purdue University is a mirror image to A&M,
because like A&M, Purdue is a land grant school and
is highly respected in agriculture, science, engineer
ing and other areas."
Although Scott thinks he would like to do some
thing like his father, who has already been on three
shuttle missions, he said space travel is really not for
him.
"Doing something like this is something you have
to have from day one, and this is not my life dream,"
he said. "It has always been my father's dream."
Jerry said the German-managed mission has sev
eral purposes and is expected to be completed over
nine to 10 days.
"We have experiments focusing on the environ
ment on earth and will try to map it in more detail
than we have now," he said. "Also, experiments fo
cusing on how human bodies, plants and small ani
mals are affected by microgravity (zero gravity) will
be conducted."
Experimenting on the space environment will
also be helpful in choosing building materials for fu
ture spacecraft, he said.

HUNTSVILLE - Two stalf

A state judge in Houston and
the Texas Court of Criminal Ap

the execution, sending the matter
to the federal courts.
The U.S. Supreme Court la
week refused to review the case.
Santana's lawyers contended
jurors were not allowed toconsid

as a child and that he had lived in
great poverty.
They also contended jury in

that he wasn't told at the time of
his arrest that he could contacts

Santana's case attracted the at

the Dominican Republic,
asked federal and Texas officials
to intervene and spare Santanas
life.
A New York-based Committee
to Save the Life of Carlos Santana
sent more than 500 cards and let

asking the execution be stopped
Richards, however, has refused
similar attempts in previous death
penalty cases.
"There's a whole lot going
but maybe it's not enough," San

week. "The courts seem to
more interested in expediting exe

Santana and an accomplice,
