World Trade Center bombing investigation

A second call two days later ex
tended the deadline to Jan. 26,
which passed without incident.
Kelly said such a threat was not
uncommon in New York, and that
authorities receive 10 to 12 a year.
In reply to a question about
Hamas, Fox said: "That's a group
with a known propensity for vio
lence. That's a group we're look
ing at, one of several groups."
Earlier, FBI spokesman Joe
Valiquette said the investigation
wasn't focused on a single group.
He wouldn't comment on puo-
lished reports about a Serbian
connection.
While investigators searched
for clues and suspects, authorities
took another approach in the
search for the bombers: a $200,000
reward, the biggest in city history,
for information leading to their ar
rest and conviction.
Four days after the blast, fami
lies of the victims buried their
dead and officials announced
plans for a "small and symbolic"
memorial at the World Trade Cen
ter. One man believed lost in the
explosion suddenly resurfaced.
Another remained missing.
Friday's explosion also injured
more than 1,000, sent tens of thou
sands fleeing down smoke-filled
stairways, and forced the shut
down of the twin towers, the
world's second-tallest buildings.
The buildings may reopen later
this month, authorities said.
Fox said authorities also were
looking through the blown-out
garage for surveillance tapes that
could provide them with a license
plate number or other lead to
ward the bombers. One of the
tapes was missing, misplaced by a
garage worker, he said.
Work in the rubble below the
Vista Hotel focused on the vehi
cles battered in the explosion.
