T he Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA)
allocated $536,890 to
Easterwood Airport, which will
be used to pay for airport
improvements, said Harry Raisor,
director of aviation at Texas A&M
University's Easterwood Airport.
Raisor said the funds
Easterwood will receive are
"nothing new."
Raisor said the airport receives
funds from the FAA if the number
of passengers at Easterwood is at
least one-tenth of one percent of
total commercial airline
passengers nationwide.
"In my 16 years (at
Easterwood), there was only one
year that we did not receive
funding," Raisor said.
Raisor said the airport has
received funds ranging from
$180,000 to this year's $536,890.
The funds have been allocated
toward Phase Two of a program
to set up pilot directory signs
along the runway as instructed by
the FAA, and to upgrade the
storm drain system which, Raisor
said, has not been upgraded since
the airport was built.
"The Easterwood Field Airport
is important to the economic
growth of Brazos County, and I
am pleased that these funds will
be used to enhance the safety and
use of the airport," U.S. Senator
Phil Gramm said.
Larry Neal, an official at
Senator Gramm's office, said the
FAA administers grant programs
to insure public safety at public-
use airports and to aid in
development of airports to meet
current and future public
demand.
A single engine Cessna airplane flies in for a landing at
Easterwood Airport Tuesday afternoon. The airport is to receive
$536,890 from the FAA for improvements such as directory signs
and an upgrade in the storm drain systerp.
Woman sues
'bad parent'
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
AUSTIN - A 48-year-old
Austin man being sued by his
daughter said he is not perfect
and has not seen a copy of the
lawsuit that charges he was a bad
parent.
“I have no idea what it's
about,” Earl McMannis Jr. said
Monday. Asked if he had any
response to the accusation in the
lawsuit that he was a bad parent,
he replied, "Let's put it this way:
Trh not perfect."
