we will play anybody," Glenn
said.
A&M running back Greg Hill
happily reveled in the win against
the Longhorns but said that he
would be disappointed if he
didn't get to play for the national
title.
"This is a sub-national champi
onship," Hill said. "We deserve to
play for the national champi
onship - point blank. We have
nothing left to prove.
"If we aren't playing for a na
tional championship on New
Year's Day, then something is
wrong."
Texas center Turk McDonald
also credited the Aggies with be
ing an elite team.
"I give them a lot of credit;
they're a good football team," he
said. "They are the best defense
we've played all year. They are
strong, physical, and fast."
Inside linebacker Jason Atkin-

son agreed with the tenor of his
teammates on who the Aggies
should play in the Cotton Bowl,
"We deserve nothing less th
the best team out there," Atkinson|e first ti
said. "We're 12-0 with 21 straighl
regular season wins. You just
can't beat that."
Senior guard John Ellisor, play
ing in his last regular season gamslore diffi
as an Aggie, reflected on his efore th<
team's accomplishments.
"You think you will stumbli
somewhere, but now that were
here, it's a feeling 1 can't describe,
Ellisor said.

But have you guys looked at
the Aggies' most recent scores?
They beat Southern Methodist by
34, Louisville by 22, Houston by
eight, Texas Christian by 27 and
Texas by 21.
In all of those games, A&M
scored at least 34 points, and in
all but one of them, A&M won
by three touchdowns. The only
exception being a game on the
road having four days rest.
You guys also seem to like
teams who get better as the sea
son goes along. This team has
improved each week. At the
start of the season, granted,
A&M couldn't have beaten Mia
mi. Now, you have to believe
that the Aggies would pose as a
serious threat to the Hurricanes.
But we'll never find out. Will
we?
If a national championship
isn't meant to be, and it looks
like it's not, let's hope that this
unfortunate incident would spur
the powers that be to get off their
duffs and do what every other
organized sport on the planet
does to decide a champion - in
stitute a playoff system.
Until a playoff system is es
tablished, the chance remains
that a perfect team could slip
through the cracks of the system
and not have a shot at the nation
al crown. A&M's martyr could
be just the thing to right this
wrong.
But until the day when teams
can blame themselves for not
winning, college football has to
blame you guys. And I'd say
screwing a 12-0 team is a legiti
mate gripe.
A&M did its job. Now, you
do yours.
