rooski" play the A&M coaching
staff has dubbed the "Golden

Despite his now high yards-
per-carry mark, Harrison said
there is no danger of him chal
lenging Hill or Thomas for a spot
in the backfield.
"It (the prospects of more car
ries) is not too good," Harrison
said. "I block for Greg and Rod
ney. That's my job. I was just
thinking 'Score.'"
For the time being, Slocum is
just thinking about his unblem
ished record.
"It's fun to be 10-0," Slocum
said. "I'm really proud of our
team. They worked very well to
gether."

Volleyball advance
BY K. LEE DAVIS
Special to The Battalion
The Texas A&M Lady Aggie
volleyball team will be trying to
get back on the winning track Sat
urday when they take on the Uni
versity of Texas-San Antonio Lady
Roadrunners at the Convocation
Center on the UTSA campus.
A&M, coming off a four game
match loss to the Baylor Lady
Bears at the final home game of
the season on Wednesday night,
will be looking to pick up their
second victory in the last six
matches, and will also be attempt
ing to regroup before the SWC
Championships which will be
held in Austin Nov. 20-22.
UTSA (18-13) is hitting for a
.235 average with 14.03 kills, 12.07
assists and 17.61 digs.
The Lady Aggies will be play
ing their third match they have
ever played against the San An
nio school, winning both previt
tilts, including a three gameswi
last season, 15-6,15-2,15-8.
Lady Aggie head coach
Givens characterized the matcli
as one of the most important t«
his team has had to face all seas
"I think from the standpoint
confidence and trying toga
some momentum, this isavt
important match," Givens said,
Junior outside attacker An
Kisling agreed that the match v,
be instrumental to the success
failure of A&M's post seas
hopes.
"It is very important for the!
that we need to get ready forpo
season play, and we have got
pull together after this (Bayli
loss," Kisling said.
Givens added that he expect
tough match from the Lady Roa
runners this weekend.
"They're going to competen
hard, so we're really going to hi
to get after it," Givens said.
Holyfield prepares to fight Bow
From staff and wire reports
LAS VEGAS - Evander Holy-
field will be defending his heavy
weight title against Riddick Bowe
tonight in the Thomas & Mack
Center.
Some experts have contended
that Bowe quit against Lennox
Lewis in the second round of the
1988 Olympic super heavyweight
final. A tape of the match confitt
that Bowe did not quit, buttli
the referee acted too hastily.
Critics point to Holy field's it
row escape against unheraldi
Bert Cooper, who took the fighli
late notice as a substitute!
Francesco Damiani. Holyfield#
knocked down in the third roir
but he stopped Cooper in thes
enth on Nov. 23,1991.

seemed like the play was over.
Then, Greg Hill took over. In
the third quarter, he scored three
times inside the ten to give the
Aggies the lead and the momen
tum.
But as soon as this one was
about to be written in the books,
the Run-and-Shoot came back
and with lightning-quick speed
rejuvenated the Cougars.
Klinglef executed it to perfec
tion in the fourth quarter. Boom!
A 73-yard shot to Ron Peters for
the score. Boom! A 42-yard lob
to Peters in the end zone. All of a
sudden the game is a touchdown
away from being deadlocked.
But as it has so many times be
fore, the defense came to the fore
front. Though it wasn't the
strength of the unit this time., it
was the quickness and the stami
na of the secondary that saved
A&M the ballgame.
In a game where 57 balls were
thrown, the Aggie defensive
backs were run ragged. Still, they
managed to keep up their intensi
ty to halt Klingler's final drive in
the last two minutes.
Another loss for the home
team.
Although one would be hard-
pressed to call Houston the home
team in this game. Of the 38,644
fans, an overwhelming majority
of them were clad in maroon —
one of the reasons that the Aggies
were able to come back in the sec
ond half.
Only A&M can come to enemy
territory and yell loud enough for
Klingler to have difficulty calling
the signals. I'm sure the TV
viewers were all wondering if
this game was being played at
Kyle Field South.
I'm sure they also would have
to wonder why head coach R.C.
Slocum called a "Fumblerooski"
or as the team calls it, a "Golden
Goose Egg," which provided
A&M its first touchdown. Wha!
ever the reason, it worked topei
fection.
And hey, if it gives an offen
sive lineman like Tyler Harriso:
a trip into the end zone, there
must be something to it.
So A&M survived another
game. This team has had more
comebacks than Sugar Ray
Leonard.
But you can't argue withsut
cess. And when you're standir
victorious on the floor of the A:
trodome undefeated, undaunte
and the ultimate prize of collej!
football stares you in the face,
you must be doing something
right.
In sports, in life and in our clothes, it takes a little more to make a Champion.
