"This season's been different than any other season I've ever been in," he said. "The youth brings out inconsistencies some times. They've kind of played to whatever level they can to win the game." Even so, Slocum can set the school record for most consecutive SWC wins by a coach with a win. His 11 straight victories currently tie the legendary Aggie coach, Homer Norton, who provided A&M with its only national cham pionship in 1939. Freiburger Continued from Page 5 Freiburger said. But making the team wasn't enough for Freiburger because the football bug had hit, and he want ed to play some more. Towards that end, Freiburger put together videotapes of his highlights and sent them to col lege football programs across the country, and many expressed in terest including West Virginia and Alabama. But SMU hacked up interest with a scholarship and a chance to see playing time right away. So that is where Freiburger decided to go. "Coach Rossley was the offen- Friday, October SI,I *A6Gl£S.' But Freihurg- er suffered a season-ending Freiburger knee injury in the Texas Christian contest last season and spent the offseason trying to rehabilitate the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee to prepare for this season. "I worked out pretty hard and got in shape probably for the first time in my football career," Freiburger said of his rehabilita tion. Chuck Freiburger, Dan's father, is an attorney in Columbus, Ohio, and the quarterback for two-time national touch football champi ons, Hi-State Beverage. Dan said his father enjoys watching him play, but that his mother hates to watch. "Mom came down and saw me get knocked around, and said she isn't ever coming back to watch," Freiburger chuckled. "Dad likes watching me play, though." Freiburger said he was looking forward to playing the Aggies this weekend and said that he doesn't want to just compete. He wants to win. "I would love to beat A&M, and that's all I care about," he said.
