ATTENTION Quayles* Rally
College Republicans
THANK YOU
For Making the
Vice President's Visit
a Success!
Texas A&M C.R. Officers
Just a Reminder....
Last Tuesday there was a rally at Texas A&M for the Vice President of the United
States. According to Webster's, a rally means "an assembly, especially one to inspire
enthusiasm." No where in this definition did we see that Dan Quayle had to address
issues relating to the campaign. The thousands of supporters of Quayle that attended the
rally were enthused, therefore the rally was a success.
In response to the University endorsing the Republican ticket, they did not. The
Administration on this campus remained bi-partisan throughout the entire process. The
Texas A&M College Republicans have endorsed Dan Quayle, and with the help of the
Bush-Quayle team, rented G. Rollie White to host this once in a lifetime event. We
didn't receive any funds from the University. The only support that we received was the
cooperation that any other campus organization planning the same type of event would
receive.
The Aggie Band and yell leaders were not required to attend the rally. Those who did
were on a volunteer basis. They were invited, they accepted. If Governor Clinton or
Senator Gore appear at Texas A&M the Aggie Democrats have just as much right as the
College Republicans to invite the same people. We had, and still have, no control as to
what these individuals chose to participate in. The members of the Aggie Band and yell
leaders that did attend do not deserve a reprimand. They were there to enthuse, as it was
a rally.
In reference to the signs that were taken away from those who attempted to bring them
in, everyone was informed prior to the rally as to the rules. The anti-Bush/Quayle, pro-
Clinton/Gore were not the only signs that were removed. Any sign was taken away,
numerous pro-Bush/Quayle signs were taken. The only signs allowed were the ones
inside. No on was forced to take a Bush/Quayle sign, this was a choice. No ones
freedom of speech was violated, once inside anyone could say what ever they liked.
We commend the Democrats who came to genuinely hear what Quayle had to say.
Thank you for not attempting to cause problems. We are accused of violating freedom of
speech, but a small group of people attempted to violate our right to have an orderly
event. There was no one escorted or removed from the rally. The individuals who left,
left on their own accord.
Whether Dan Quayle came to this University as a Vice Presidential contender or as
Vice President is irrelevant, he is our Vice President and deserves respect as such. Come
November if Gore becomes Vice President, College Republicans will give him the same
respect that we asked of you.

months of the year are spent here in Aggieland where you pay taxes and can get thrown in jail.
