Employers recruit at job fair
By MONIQUE LUNSFORD
Reporter of THE BATTALION
More than 80 engineering and
technical companies flocked to
A&M to interact with potential
Aggie employees during the Stu
dent Engineers' Council career
fair, held Sept. 9-10 in the Memor
ial Student Center.
Under the theme "Capitalizing
on Engineering Opportunities,"
students roamed the second floor
ballroom of the MSC, stopping
from table to table to inquire
about available jobs, desired de
grees, and other information the
various businesses had to offer.
Some companies attending the
fair were Hewlett Packard, Exxon,
Mobil, Boeing, Amoco and the
Texas Water Commission.
According to a fair official all
the companies seemed to be
pleased with the atmosphere of
eager students.
Businesses sought to recruit
students from all areas of engi
neering, such as mechanical, elec
trical, chemical and technical.
"We're looking for civil and
mechanical engineers and also
students in information systems,
slash computer science," Wesley
Hogan, the technical recruiting
manager for Citgo, said. "And
far as numbers, we're definite!
going to recruit, and we havepn
sitions available."
Elizabeth Gaines, a recruits
from Vulcan Chemicals, inGeis
mar. La., said her company
seeking specific types of students
"Basically, we're recruiting ft
entry-level chemical engineering
mechanical and electrical
neers," she said. "Bachelor of So
ence degree is what we start wit
but it is an entry-level positiot
We don't require any experienO
and we have some co-op position
that are open. Basically, it's a nid
place to work."
