MSC Showcase provides Top 5 mo f .
A requested songs of
music, laughs for students the week.
By MACK HARRISON
Staff Writer for THE It ATE AI ION
Texas A&M students will find
comedy, music and information
about the Memorial Student Cen
ter the main attractions tonight in
Rudder Auditorium at the first
MSC Showcase.
MSC Town Hall and Student
Programs are sponsoring the
show in order to educate new stu
dents about the activities the MSC
offers.
The Showcase features award
winning comedian David Naster
as the master of ceremonies.
Naster, who was named 1990 Co
median of the Year by the Nation
al Association of Campus Activi
ties, has performed at A&M in the
past, in addition to stints on MTV,
Showtime, A&E, and 11BO.
Austin musician David Garza
will provide tunes for the event,
along with two local performers.
Guitarist and Texas A&M student
Kyle Hutton has made a name for
himself in the local club scene and
vocalist Jill McClure won the 1992
Miss Texas A&M pageant last
spring.
Nathan Weyer, vice chair of
Club for MSC Town Hall, said the
Showcase, in conjunction with
MSC Open House, is designed to
interest freshman students in
MSC activities.
"It's the first year they've had
this type of thing," Weyer said.
"It's a way of making it entertain
ing (for students.)"
Dave Salmon, advisor for Town
Hall, said the Showcase provides
a chance for the various MSC
committees to let Aggies know
what the organizations have to of
fer. After the Showcase, commit
tee members will provide infor
mation about the various activi
ties the MSC has to offer.
"The whole gist of the show
case is to give students an idea of
what (the MSC) is about, even be
fore Open House," Salmon said.
Weyer said the event is quite a
bargain, as well as accessible to
on-campus students.
"It's cheap, fun and easy to go
to," he said.
The show kicks off tonight at
7:30 in Rudder Auditorium. Tick
ets are $2 for freshmen, who must
bring their fee slip, $3 for all other
students and $5 for non-students.
Immediately following the
Showcase, Aggie Cinema will
show the season premiere of its
alternative film series, "Night on
Earth" in Rudder Theatre. The
film, starring Winona Ryder,
starts at 9:30 and costs $2.
