John Sherman, Corps Commander, said he feels it is the duty of the Corps to remember the holocaust. "We're participating because of the sheer magnitude of the Holocaust," he said. The case is apparently the first to hit Texas since the dreaded dis ease started its northward migra tion from Peru and Brazil, where hundreds of people died and thousands were infected in the past year. A major outbreak of the disease started in Peru in January 1991, and has spread through South and Central America. Nearly 400,000 cases of cholera have been con firmed, including at least 4,000 deaths. In Mexico, more than 2,800 cases have been counted. Only five cases of cholera reported in Texas from 1988, and those were notthesa!*’ type of cholera that is current being seen. Cholera is usually contract when a person consumes food drink contaminated with fee* matter. The symptoms include^ arrhea and vomiting.
