he National Football League
draft is just around the corner
so it's time to do some wishful
draft-day thinking.
There seems to be an abundance
of Aggies eligible for this year's draft
including Chris Grooms, Randy Sim
mons, Kary Vincent, Mark Wheeler
and Ramsey Bradberry. These are all
quality players who could get drafted
by teams in the later rounds.
But if you really want to talk
about Aggies who are the cream of
the draft crop, the names Quentin
^Coryatt and Kevin Smith rise to the
top.
J Coryatt figures to be the higher
drafted of the two players. Many
1 scouts have tagged Coryatt as the No.
1 linebacker in the draft. While it's
very doubtful he will be the top pick,
he should be in the top ten.
The Cincinnati Bengals have ex
pressed an interest in Coryatt. The
Bengals have the fourth pick and
need a linebacker to complement for
mer Baylor linebacker James Francis.
Another team that would like
iCoryatt is the Dallas Cowboys. But
those chances seem unlikely unless
there is a trade in the works. The
Cowboys first pick isn't until the
middle of first round at No. 13. It's
very doubtful Cbryatt's name will be
left on the draft board by that time.
That's truly a shame because it
seems like Coryatt and the Cowboys
would be a perfect match. The Cow
boys desperately need a linebacker.

Aggies lumber past SEA
A&M bats lift team to 2-1 win, 12-0 wallop over 'Jacks
By Steve O'Brien
The Battalion
After a weekend awakening against
the Texas Longhorns, the Texas Aggie
batting lineup threatened to fall back into
its winter hibernation Tuesday night.
Conrad Colby had other ideas.
Colby, who was benched in the Texas
series, returned to the lineup and drove in
the winning run against Stephen F.
Austin to give A&M a 2-1 win in game
one of a doubleheader.
The Aggies came back in game two to
wallop the Lumberjacks 12-0.
Colby doubled down the left field line
in the eighth inning of the first game,
bringing in Robert Trimble from second
base.
"It was a fastball," Colby said. "I was
looking for it. I had a feeling today before
the game that I was going to get my
chance to play. Sure enough, I got in
there in a big situation."
In game two, the Aggies didn't have
to rely on any last second heroics. A&M
hammered out 10 hits for the easy 12-run
margin.
With the two wins, the Aggies im
proved to 28-15 on the season. SFA fell to
'9-30.
A&M right hander James Nix (7-4) got
the win in game one, throwing one in
ning and allowing one run, while SFA
right-hander Michael Adamek threw 6
2/3 scoreless innings before Chris Domek
lost the game in the eighth.
Aggie right hander Paul Barber (1-0)
gave up one hit in three innings of work
to win game two.
Colby's game-winning hit came in the
bottom of the eighth inning of a game
scheduled to go seven. The Lumberjacks
had scored a run in their half of the eighth
on a passed ball, but A&M responded
with three hits to end the game.
Colby said the last inning rally didn't
have a big effect on game two.
"We swung the bats really well this
weekend against Texas even though we
lost two games," he said. "I don't know
what happened in the first game. Maybe
the guy (Adamek) was just throwing that
well, but we got going in the second
game.
"I don't think my hit had that much to
do with it. We've been hitting well all
weekend. I think that carried over."
In game two, A&M sophomore Billy
Harlan came off the bench in the second
inning and knocked a grand-slam home
run over the left-field wall. It was Har
lan's only hit of the game and his first

Pitching lifts
Lady Aggies
past Bobcats
By Anthony Andro
The Battalion
Excellent pitching carried the
Texas A&M Lady Aggie softball team
to a doubleheader sweep of South
west Texas State University last
night.
The Lady Aggies used back-to-
back shutouts to sweep the Bobcats 1-
0 and 4-0 at the Lady Aggie Softball
Field. The wins improved the team's
record top 33-17.
A&M coach Bob Brock was hap
py to see his team pick up the wins.
"I think we did a really nice job
today, especially with the traveling
and we didn't work out yesterday,'
Brock said. "I was glad to see (pitch
er Jennifer) Mortensen come back
and have a good game. She's been
struggling a little bit.
"What you saw tonight is what
Dana (Mitchell, pitcher) has been do
ing. Dana has been throwing real
well.
"I was real happy with our pitch
ing."
In the nightcap, pitcher Mitchell
threw a one-hitter and the offense
ripped out eight hits in the 4-0 win.
After Karen Kalhoefer singled in
the first inning, leftfielder Stephanie
Schulte doubled to give the Lady Ag
gies a 1-0 lead.
Sharia Cannon walked to open
the second inning and third baseman
Rhonda Halbert singled to put run
ners on first and second.
Lady Aggie catcher Michelle
Mayfield doubled to score Cannon
and give A&M a 2-0 lead. Stacey Se
gal blooped a double down the right
field line, scoring Halbert and May-
field to cap the scoring at 4-0.
Mitchell had a no-hitter going un
til Bobcat designated player Karen
Taylor broke it up with a two-out
double in the fifth inning.
