My father is Class of '57 and older brother is Class of '84. Having grown up surrounded by the many traditions of Texas A&M University, I feel confident that I possess the responsibility to serve the 12th Man as a Junior Yell Leader. Last spring, I walked on for the football team. However, due to the time commitment for practice, and my first priority being the Corps of Cadets, I could not continue my dream of playing for the Aggies. As a Junior Yell Leader, I can still serve the 12th Man and the student body. A Yell Leader should be many things, but most of all a "SOLDIER, STATESMAN, KNIGHTLY GENTLEMAN." People there don't know what Aggie Spirit is, but they know everyone of us and that is Texas A&M. Now the decision is yours. I believe Yell Leaders should be people who know what is right and are willing to stand up for it. The term is "Yell Leader," not "yell follow- the-crowder." So, they should yell and lead. "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2a). In other words, "whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things . . . Being a third generation Aggie, I've grown up knowing the spirit and traditions of Aggieland. However, by being an active part of the 12th Man, I feel we all share a rich heritage here at A&M. Since my freshman year, I have been involved in Class Council, Student Government, Fish Camp, the MSC, and the Corps. The experiences gained in these organizations have instilled in me the desire to give back something to this University which has given me so much. A Yell Leader must be dedicated, responsible, and willing to serve and represent the students of A&M at all times.
