avericks' 15-game slide ends
’ourth-quarter run halts franchise record-tying slump
DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas
avericks, getting eight points
rookie Donald Hodge in a
decisive 13-0 fourth-quarter run,
Isnapped a club-record-tying 15-
panae losing streak with a 105-98
pictory Sunday night over the
llenver Nuggets.
P Denver, missing injured rookie
center Dikembe Mutombo,
seemed on the verge of taking
control by building a 92-86 lead
Iwith 7:10 to play on Chris Jack-
|son's 18-footer.
But a technical foul on the
INuggets' Scott Hastings for argu
ing a charging call led to a free
How by Mike luzzolino with 6:41
llemaining. That set in motion the
liallas run capped by Rolando
Iplackman's free throws for a 99-92
|lead with 1:52 to play.
Hodge scored six consecutive
Ipoints during the run, including a
Idunk off an offensive rebound for
a 97-92 advantage.
Blackman had 22 points for the
Mavericks, and luzzolino added
21.
Marcus Liberty and Mark Ma
con had 19 points each to lead
Denver, which snapped a score
less string of 5:37 on the latter's 15-
foot jumper with 1:33 to play. That
narrowed the deficit to 99-94.
Macon's 3-pointer pulled Den
ver to 101-98 with 35 seconds left.
But Blackman made a layup with
24 seconds to play, sending Den
ver to its fourth consecutive de
feat.
After trailing by as many as 13
points in the first half, the Nuggets
rallied behind Greg Anderson's
eight third-quarter points for a 78-
77 lead entering the final period.
Anderson's three-point play
with 17.2 seconds left in the quar
ter gave the Nuggets the lead en
tering the final period. Walter
Davis' 3-pointer with 4:46 left in
the quarter put the Nuggets in
front 67-66, their first lead since
the game's opening minute.
Dallas rolled to a 19-6 lead and
held a 29-18 edge after one period.
Denver pulled to 40-37 with
4:30 left in the second quarter on
Jackson's 20-footer. But the Mav
ericks went on a 16-7 tear for a 56-
44 halftime lead.
Mutombo stayed in Denver to
nurse a sprained left thumb. Start
ing guard Winston Garland also
missed the game with a sprained
toe.

A&M comes
from behind to
win TCU series
Continued from Page 7
and Estes had a two-RBI single to
give A&M a 5-0 lead.
After an unearned run for the
Frogs in the fifth, left fielder Eric
Gonzalez finished the scoring for
A&M by doubling , moving to
third on a vyild pitch and scoring
on a ground out by shortstop Ja
son Marshall.
Estes continued the offensive
onslaught in the final game of the
series, hitting 3-for-5 and knocking
in three runs. That performance
was highlighted by Estes' team
leading fourth home run of the
season, a solo shot to open the
sixth inning.
Sophomore Kelly Wunsch im
proved his record to 3-1 with a vic
tory in the final game. He lasted
five and one-third innings and
gave up three runs, only one of
which was earned.
TCU's Reid Ryan, son of Texas
Rangers' pitcher Nolan Ryan, was
the losing pitcher. Ryan lasted less
than two innings in dropping to 2-
3 on the season.
Ryan's downfall came in the
form of a four-run second inning
for the Aggies. Trimble singled
and designated hitter Brian Bittik-
er doubled to move Trimble to
third. Both runners scored on a
double by first baseman Conrad
Colby.
After a walk to center fielder
Brian Thomas, Travis Williams
sacrificed the runners to second
and third. Marshall then singled
up the middle to bring in both
runners and end Ryan's work for
the evening.
James Nix relieved Wunsch in
the sixth inning and picked up his
team-leading third save.
The Aggies exploded again in
the ninth, scoring four runs to in
sure against a comeback from the
Frogs. Estes continued to have the
hot hand as he singled in two runs
in the final stanza.
Johnson and his A&M squad
will return home tomorrow to host
the University of Texas at Arling
ton. The Aggies and the Maver
icks will square off at 7 p.m. in
Olsen Field.
