College Station audiences will get a taste of "peace and Humptiness forever" when MSC Town Hall presents hip-hop masters Digital Un derground in their first local appearance. The band is scheduled to play Deware Field House at 7:30 P.M. Friday night. D.U. are an ever-changing network of some of the most inventive talents in hip-hop and rap today. The group first came to fame with their single, "Doowutchyalike," which featured a video that became an MTV sensation. That was closely fc^flov^ed by "The Hurnpty Dance," the success of which propelled D.U.'s album, "Sex Packets" into the Top 40 and many critic's "Best of Year" list. The band consists of such flamboyant char acters as Humpty-Hump, 2Pac and Money-B, Schmoovy-Schmoov, DJ. Fuze, and others. They feature rap, skits, music, sex, and bizarre humor. Any group that sees themselves as the succesors to 70's musical pioneers, P-Funk, should be something to see. Tickets for the show are available at Foleys or the Rudder Box Office and are priced at $12.00 for students, $14.00 for non-students. MSC Town Hall hosts Digital Underground tomorrow night at Deware Field House. Old Ag songwriters return to Bryan-College Station By Atlantis Tillman The Battalion Although the inspirational porch is no longer around, "This Old Porch," is alive and well for most Aggies who will be treated to both versions of the song this week with concerts being per formed by both songwriters. "Porch," written by former stu dents Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen, Jr., captures much of the beloved culture to be experienced in going to school at Texas A&M. But, even if you are not fortunate enough to have a porch across the street from the A&M Presbyterian Church and a guitar to play on lazy Sunday mornings, you are sure to enjoy the dynamic perfor mances given by each artist. Lyle Lovett returns to Texas A&M to perform his unique blend of country and blues Monday night at Rudder Auditorium. Lovett has created his own version of country music with His Large Band consisting of a cellist, horn section and a sultry R&B fe male backup vocalist. His songs range from lonesome cowboy tales like "If I Had a Boat" in which Tonto informs the Lone Ranger, "Kemo sabe, kiss my ass" and then floats away in solitude, and sultry blues numbers like "Here I Am" and "Crying Shame." Robert Earl Keen, Jr., who will perform at Stafford Opera House Friday night, also considers him self to be a country singer, but, like Lovett, doesn't fit the traditional country sound. Keen is a master storyteller and brings a folksy, Texas sound to the Opera House. Both Lovett and Keen are worth the ticket price of $10 (avail able at the MSC box office and Ma rooned Records, respectively). Their fresh approach to sohgwrit- ing will leave you anxious for even more, making new albums to be released by each this year well worth the wait. Lyle Lovett plays Rudder Auditorium Monday night.
