She said the Aggies lost those elements toward the end of the season. "We are at a big disadvantage having to play a team that is play ing so well at home," Hickey said. "But we put ourselves in that posi tion. "SMU is playing well and with so much confidence. Our advan tage is our depth and we must uti lize it." Rangers fans better cherish this season because it might be the best one they' have for some time. The rest of the division might make the AL West the best divi sion from top to bottom. The Oakland Athletics, the Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals should be the best of the division. But when it's all said and done, look for the White Sox to be the winners. The combina tion of Frank Thomas, Tim Raines and Steve Sax could pose a serious threat to the rest of the American League. Thomas could also become the league's Most Valuable Player. The White Sox will beat the Red Sox in the playoffs and rep resent the American League in the World Series. That leaves the National League. Let's start in the West. It would be nice to see the Atlanta Braves go back to the playoffs because they are a fun team to watch. Atlanta has been a bad team for so long, and it's nice to see an underdog win. The only thing that will stop the Braves next season will be the Dodgers. The duo of Eric Davis and Darryl Strawberry should make the Dodgers the best in the West. Ifnot, sowha It doesn't matter who wins the West because they will get beat by the team from theNL East. The team, of course, is the Chicago Cubs. The Cubbies art going to surprise a lot of this year, both on and of the field. Chicago doesn't have the on field pressure it did last season after spending a lot of money big-name free agents. This sea son, just like in 1989, not much expected from the Cubbies. An* as every true Cubs fan remem bers, 1989 was the last year the; took the NL East. Off the field, two Cub events should make news. First, Ryne Sandberg will announce that he will take some of his money a: J give the United States its first balanced budget since Eisen hower was President. But more importantly, the Cubs will make news by an nouncing that they have signed 1 new batboy — the King himself Elvis. Elvis will say he takes the job to get himself back into shape before he comes out of re tirement for his 1992 World Tour. In the end, the 1992 baseball season will become an L-train se ries. Don't be surprised to see the Cubs take the White Sox in seven games. Pioi Don "V collectk By!
