For more information call: BIOPHARMA, INC. 776-0400 J UCLA were undefeated and the best the nation had to offer. That was then, this is now. Duke looked like the team to beat. They ? were the best team in the nation for the first couple of months, led by wonderboy Christian Laettner. But after point guard Bobby Hurley was injured, the Blue Devils have proved to be mortal. They have lost two games in the last three weeks and despite being the No.l team in the nation, they are no longer the clear favorite to win it all. Oklahoma State has hit the skids — big time. The Cowboys were at one time, 20-0, and the No.2 team in the nation. Now the Cowboys are 21-5 and seem to have as many weaknesses as they do strengths. UCLA was another team that looked like they could beat any one. That was before losses to USC and Notre Dame. So what does all this mean? Simply put, the best teams this season don't have a clear path to Minneapolis and the Final Four. Indiana and Kentucky are a couple of teams that could be there, despite lack-luster perfor mances. Indiana is a good team. But they are just plain boring. CBS better hope the Hoosiers are eliminated quickly in the tourna ment or they will viewers will begin turning channels for more exciting sources of entertain ment. Then there's Kentucky. The Wildcats struggled early and people wrote them off. They don't have a center but there aren't many teams, outside of LSU and Georgetown, that really do. What Kentucky does have is a bunch of guys who can hit three pointers, which could take them a long way come tourna ment time. The sleeper team of the tour nament has to be USC. The Tro jans have the best player in the nation this side of Shaquille O'Neal. Harold Miner is a junior, do- everything player. He can score from outside and isn't afraid to drive the lane and score from the paint. Miner has been compared to Michael Jordan, which is the ulti mate compliment in basketball. Miner even wears the No. 23 on his jersey. He can carry the Tro jans a long way. But there are many teams like the Trojans out there and this season, for a change, anyone of them can leave the "Big Dance" with a big smile. be easy.
