Maxwell scored 14 points in the fi
nal 4:17 of the third quarter, spark
ing a 16-5 scoring run that carried
the Houston Rockets to a 90-83
victory Sunday night over the San
Antonio Spurs.
Matt Bullard sank a pair of cru
cial baskets in the final minute to
preserve the victory.
Maxwell finished with 25
points, followed by Hakeem Ola-
juwon with 18 points and 14 re
bounds, Kenny Smith with 17
points and Bullard with 15 points.
Olajuwon had 7 blocked shots
for a career total of 2,006, becom
ing the sixth player in NBA history
to block 2,000 or more shots.
David Robinson led San Anto
nio with 16 points and 10 re
bounds, with Antoine Carr adding
14 points and Sean Elliott 13
points for the Spurs.
The Rockets led 56-44 before
the Spurs scored 15 straight for a
59-56 advantage with 4:41 left in
the third quarter. Maxwell then
went on his scoring explosion,
leading his team back to a 72-64
lead going into the game's final 12
minutes.
Houston led by as many as 12
points in the fourth quarter before
a pair of free throws by Robinson
concluded a 9-1 scoring run that
brought the Spurs within 85-81
with 1:26 left.
Bullard then sank a 3-point
shot, and after two free throws by
Elliott, Bullard added a slam dunk
to widen the edge to 90-83.
The Rockets led by as many as
14 in the second quarter, and it
was 49-38 at halftime.

The Texas A&M men's tennis
team continued its quest for an un
defeated season Friday by defeat
ing the University of Southwest
ern Louisiana, 5-4 at the Omar
Smith Tennis Center. The Aggies
are now 6-0 on the season.
A&M and the Rajin' Cajuns
finished the singles competition
deadlocked at three matches each.
The Aggies won two of the three
doubles matches, including a
come-from-behind win in the last
match by Mark Weaver and
Bernardo Martinez that secured
the victory.
After losing the first set.
Weaver and Martinez came back
to record a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
A&M head coach David Kent said
Weaver and Martinez, as they
have all season, came through for
the Aggies in the clutch to secure a
win.
"Mark and Bernardo have
been phenomenal all season,"
Kent said. "They always manage
to find a way to win the match."
Rick Flores and Blake Barsalou
also pulled in a doubles win for
the Aggies. Doug Brown and
Scott Phillips were defeated in
doubles competition 7-6,1-6, 6-4.
