Freshman Corps members chased Yell Leaders across the field, and fireworks went off in the sky above. It was a time for most to celebrate, but for dthers to re member. A&M football players Keith Waguespack, Terry Venetoulias, Reggie Graham, Jason Atkinson, and others kneeled in the middle of Kyle Field. They met to pray for the family of James Glenn, the freshman football player that col lapsed and died Wednesday on that very spot. Earlier the team had gone about its business - staying fo cused and winning the football game - all the while wearing Glenn's No. 30 stamped on the back of their helmets. Venetoulias, the Aggies' start ing placekicker, had the best night He kicked a career-long 43- yard field goal in the first quarter, and later topped it with a 44-yard field goal at the end of the first half. But the win was not enough to make up for the loss of a team mate. “This is probably one of the toughest weeks to ever get fo cused," Venetoulias said after the game. “I had one of my best friends pass away. "I appreciate the whole team sticking by me - 1 was pretty down." Venetoulias and Glenn were friends in high school while stand ing on opposite sides of the field. Both met again at A&M and be came as close as brothers, Vene toulias said. “Everybody's telling me he's in a better place and that some things are meant to be," he said. "I guess I'm just not mature enough to understand that - He was one of my best friends." The kicker went through the same motions he always has, but this time the outcome meant a lit tle moreon the inside. “I want to dedicateeverytl I do, every kick in every ga® James Glenn," he explained not going to let his memorydif It had been a trying wed the whole team. But it alsota: them a valuable lesson. " Psychologically its beena:i| tough week for us - the strain ing on and all of the dealing the funeral and the lossofate mate," Atkinson said. "Butit ally given us a chance topi gether. M “The lord really blessed bouncing the ball our way and ting things come our way. W really happy that we haveeil other to lean on." "It's a sad thing and was for James and were could win it for him, Richardson said. Glenn was at Kyle Field Sat; day - in spirit. His name shows up in the nal defensive statistics as assis the team in making a tackle, his performance his family ceived the game ball from A&M team. A part of James Glenn never leave Kyle Field.
