"These students are given
grants to pursue a self-designed
research project abroad," she said.
One Jordan Fellow is doing a
two-week seminar in Egypt this
year, Altendorf said. The student
will be doing underwater archeol
ogy on the Nile.
The Living Abroad Program
offers an opportunity for students
to live with host families in other
countries and work in a job relat
ed to their career interests, Bonnen
said. The visit lasts four to five
weeks and can be in Germany or
the Dominican Republic.
"One mechanical engineering
major worked for Mercedes in
Germany," she said. "It is a great
experience and an opportunity to
get a grasp of the language and
the culture."
The Institute also maintains
the MSC Jordan Collection, in the
student center, which is set up like
a museum and houses articles and
gifts given to the Jordans by inter
national dignitaries, Altendorf
said.
"Most of these gifts were col
lected by the Jordans while they
lived in Venezuela and Kuwait,"
he said.
