They will stay in dorm rooms or apartments with their hosts, go to classes and experience the local nightlife. Joseph Thomas, public rela tions chairman for the Sister Uni versities Association, says he thinks the guests will find that things in College Station are pretty similar to things in Kazan. "A typical day to us in our dorms or apartments is similar to a typical day for them. When I vis ited the Soviet Union in May, I found to some extent the freedom the students had is similar to ours. They have similar responsibilities, we listen to similar music, and both groups want to make the most of their lives on a daily basis," he says. (AP) Fox Broadcasting Co., which usu ally gloats about its reputation as a brash and irreverent network, dis played a different kind of attitude at tnis summer's annual gathering of television reporters: Humility. It's a special kind of humility, a swaggering version evident more in actions than in words. But, for Fox, it was humility nonetheless. At last summer's gathering, a record number of shows 10 were wheeled out, only to go flat. This time there are only four fresh se ries slated so far for the fall sched ule. This time, there was talk about being different, about debuting no show before its time, about aggres sively advertising its product in stead of making more of it. In short. Fox is talking quality versus quantity. Quality is some thing Fox could use. For the 1989 season. Fox received 26 Emmy nominations.
