ARLINGTON — The Texas
Rangers beat up on the Balti
more Orioles 15-3 Sunday.
Nolan Ryan (1-1) scattered two
hits in seven innings. He walked
four and struck out nine.
Kevin Reimer's three-run
homer in the first inning gave
the Rangers a lead for the first
time in nine games, including
the final five games of spring
training.
The Rangers entered the game
batting .206 as a team, but
pounded out 16 hits, including
four by Rafael Palmeiro, who ex
tended his hitting streak to five
games. He is hitting .523 (11-for-
21).
Ryan (1-1) got off to a shaky
start, giving up a three-run
homer to Sam Horn in the first
inning. But he settled down and
allowed only Glenn Davis' third-
inning single after that as the
Rangers broke a season-opening
four-game losing streak.
Reimer's 406-root shot to right
in the bottom of the first put
Texas ahead 4-3. Reimer, Palm
eiro and Brian Downing each
had three RBI.
Blue Jays 9, Brewers 0
Jimmy Key pitched a two-hit-
ter and rookie Mark Whiten sin
gled twice in a six-run second in
ning.
Key (2-0) struck out five and
walked two in recording his fifth
career shutout and 21st complete
game.
Angels 9, Twins 4
Former Twin Gary Gaetti
drove in four runs to beat Jack
Morris.
Luis Polonia had three hits,
scored three runs and stole three
bases as the Angels improved to
5-1. It equals California's best
start ever, also achieved in 1970
and 1974.
Royals 5, Yankees 3
Kirk Gibson hit two homers
and drove in four runs and Mike
Boddicker gave up no runs in
eight innings.
Boddicker (1-1) walked three
and struck out four — including
Hensley Meulens three times.
Indians 6, Red Sox 0
Albert Belle hit two homers
and drove in four runs and
knuckleballer Tom Candiotti
pitched four-hit ball over seven
innings.
Belle hit a two-run homer off
Greg Harris (0-2) in the first in
ning, added a solo shot, his third
in six games, in the sixth and
had an RBI single in a two-run
seventh against reliever Dana
Kiecker.

Jones, Astros collar Giants
HOUSTON (AP) — Ken Cami-
niti hit a three-run homer and
Jimmy Jones pitched 7 1-3 strong
innings Sunday to lead the
Houston Astros past the San
Francisco Giants 7-2.
Jones allowed five hits and
both runs, struck out six and
walked three.
Houston took a 4-0 lead in the
fourth. Steve Finley doubled,
Craig Biggio singled and Luis
Gonzalez doubled for the first
run. After Ken Caminiti struck
out and Ken Oberkfell walked,
Karl Rhodes hit a sacrifice fly
and Candaele hit a two-run
triple.
Caminiti's first home run of
the season came in the fifth in
ning off reliever Trevor Wilson,
who has pitched in four of the
Giants' six games.
Cardinals 11, Phillies 7
Felix Jose drove in four runs
with a homer and a bases-loaded
double.
Bryn Smith (2-0) allowed six
hits and six runs in seven in
nings, but two of the runs were
unearned because of two St.
Louis errors.
Mets 7, Expos 1
Hubie Brooks and Rick Cerone
hit two-run singles in the first in
ning.
The Mets drew seven more
walks, including passes to
Brooks and pinch-hitter Dave
Magadan with the bases loaded
in the seventh inning.
Cubs 6, Pirates 4
Stan Belinda walked Doug
Dascenzo with the bases loaded
in the eighth inning.
Belinda walked Chico Walker
and Dascenzo on 3-2 pitches to
force in a run and Mark Grace
followed with a run-scoring
groundout.
Braves 12, Reds 1
Tom Glavine beat Cindnnat
for the ninth time in 11 careerde
cisions and Rafael Belliard had
three hits and drove in three
runs.
Glavine (1-0) allowed five hits
in six innings, walked two and
struck out six.
Padres 5, Dodgers 3
Ed Whitson pitched six strong
