AnNam Continued from page 3 ent kinds of performing art — poetry reading, modern rock, acoustic mu sic,” Nguyen said. “We want to do more multicultural things and be more than just a restau rant,” Nguyen added. "We try to bring in as much art as possible, and most of the art hanging in the Tea House is done by local artists." "It’s nice to have a place where the artists and the community can come share ideas,” Hancock said about the shows. “These shows have been a hell of a lot of fun." Nguyen emphasized that Coffee house would happen regularly. “We plan to have them every Friday, ex cept we don’t want to compete with the Town Hall Coffeehouse.” Nguyen added that this Friday the Coffee house show would be canceled be cause of Town Hall’s program. In addition to the Coffeehouse shows, AnNam has dinner theatre and international films scheduled weekly. The dinner theatre performances are Nguyen’s originals, like “Vietnamese Lullaby,” which earned him an invita tion to the Chicago House in Austin and consideration for a grant from the Back Yard Press. AnNam’s Coffeehouse perfor mances make for an enjoyable eve ning of mixed art and culture. And with the open mike structure, the Tea House assures people who show up that no two evenings will be alike. Check out the next Coffeehouse show if you're interested in soaking up an evening of poetry, acoustic music and other art forms, or give AnNam a call at 846-2898 if you’re interested in per forming.
