    Japanese
drummers
perform Friday
By Pamela Lee
The sounds of Japanese drums will
boom throughout Rudder Auditorium
to remind Aggies of the brotherhood
of the world.
Kodo, a Japanese percussion com
pany, will perform courtesy of OPAS
Friday night.
Kodo, which means heartbeat, sym
bolizes the heartbeat of the child in its
mother’s womb and the company's
desire to play the drums with the pu
rity of a child’s heart.
The drums, called Taiko, were used
for communication among neighbor
ing villages in ancient Japan. Now
Kodo uses the Taiko as a means of ex
pression on their Earth Celebration
tour.
Kodo combines the use of different
sized drums with dancing and mime.
Their fourth annual Earth Cele
bration tour started Jan. 20 in Califor
nia and wilt end in March in Olympia,
Washington. Their performances have
been seen throughout the world.
Angie Lee of OPAS said she is ex
cited because Kodo hasn’t ever had
this many performances on a tour.
She said that Kodo’s performance
provides the public with a variety of
entertainment, not just musicals and
plays.
Kodo performs Friday at 8 p.m.
Regular ticket prices are $16, $13.60,
$11.50, $9.50 and $7.50. Student
prices are $13.50, $11.50, $9.50,
$7.50 and $6. Tickets are now on sale
at the MSC Box Office. For more infor
mation call 845-1234.
