Evans Library, re ceived the first batch of docu ments Dec. 31, and is not sure how many more boxes will come. The University has received about 500 boxes containing docu ments, but most of them still have to be processed, counted and cat alogued. Schultz says processing such a large collection is expensive and the library lacks the funds for materials and staff. The library probably will proc ess files most useful to research ers first and make those papers available before any other docu ments, he says. Hoadley says she believes the papers possibly have great educa tional potential. “A&M students can learn about the development of the Re publican party in Texas because Clements was the first Republican governor since the Reconstruc tion,” she says. Mobley agrees. “He (Clements) obviously thinks well of A&M and recognizes we are a comprehen sive University,” he says. Clements is the highest-rank ing official who has donated doc uments to the University, but the A&M collection also includes pa pers from former Texas House Speaker Billy Clayton, Class of ’51, former State Sen. Kent Ca- perton, Class of ’71, and U.S. Rep. Joe Barton.
