District Judge Bob Perkins on Monday struck phrasing from the subpoenas which demanded infor mation from the University of Texas fraternities on any “misconduct.” He ruled that only information on hazing or other illegal activity could be obtained. Perkins also ordered fraternities to produce records of internal inves tigations dating back to Oct. 15, 1988, rather than Jan. 1 of that year. A grand jury investigating frater nity hazing issued the subpoenas for all 29 UT fraternities on Nov. 14. .The investigation, directed by Travis County Attorney Ken Oden, began after allegations were re ported of assaults, hazing and other illegal activity involving fraternities. Some fraternities complied with the subpoenas before Monday’s rul ing, and several were dropped from the investigation because there were no pending complaints involving them. Perkins’ ruling involved six frater nities that still were objecting to por tions of the subpoenas. Oden and lawyers for the frater nities said they were pleased with the ruling. | With Purchase j | Of Any P)ate | l L With Purchase Of Any Taco Thursday Dec. 6 99C IMPORT BEER crimes denying tivity at Prose form< Bank v loans fo jects. Students who received measles, mumps or rubella immunizations before 1980 need to have their re cords updated. The shot costs $26 at the health center. The vaccination will last for life. Tetanus and diphtheria need to be updated every 10 years. The tet anus immunization is $3 and the diphtheria immunization is $2. All international students, except those from Canada, are required to receive a tuberculosis skin test at the health center. The test costs $3. Students younger than 19 also are required to have their polio series updated. The health center, how ever, does not provide this service. Gonzalez-Lima recommended that students come in between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. with documentation of past immunizations. She said there are three practical reasons for getting immunizations up to date: • The health center has a limited number of rooms, and if another ep idemic broke out students would have to be sent home. • The health center’s 18 nurses would not be able to deal with an ep idemic. Students would have to be sent to a local hospital, which could be expensive. • The . infection could spread throughout other areas of the state if students went home not knowing they were exposed to the illness. “It is important the students know we are trying to protect them and their friends,” Gonzalez-Lima said.
