AUSTIN (AP) — A man fitting
the description of a fast-food restau
rant bandit was spotted in a nearby
psychiatric care hospital after the
Tuesday robbery, but a search
yielded no suspects, police said.
“He was seen going in, but he was
not seen leaving," said Sr. Sgt. Eliza
beth Merrill.
Employees of HCA Sihoal Creek
Hospital speculated the man may
have slipped out through a rear exit
before police secured the area, she
said.
All patients and staff were ac
counted for, Merrill said as most of
ficers were leaving the hospital after
1 p.m. Two officers remained to
check elevator shafts and other
areas, she said.
Asked whether the robbery sus
pect could be a hospital employee or
patient, Merrill said, “We questioned
that possibility, but that has not been
determined at this time.”
Police said the man entered a
Taco Bell shortly before 10:30 a.m.
and took an undisclosed amount of
cash. The initial report said he was
armed with a handgun, said Senior
Patrol Officer Jim Collins.
Man sentenced to 70 years in prison
