Ever wonder what became of the Keaton’s
nerdy neighbor Skippy from TV’s “Family
Ties?”
Well, Skippy, alias Marc Price, is doing stand-
up comedy and he’ll be performing here
Wednesday night at 8 in Rudder Auditorium.
Price has actually been doing stand-up rou
tines since he was seven, swapping jokes on
stage with his father, veteran funny man A1
Bernie. Price made his comedy TV debut when
he was 13 with an appearance on “Merv.”
Price is now 22 and traveling across country
to college campuses, where he says he likes the
audiences. “I really feel like I relate to students,
since they’re about my age,” Price said in a tele
phone interview. “I’ve been doing comedy clubs
a lot lately with audiences of all ages and it will
be interesting to see how the thrill I used to get
from college audiences has changed.”
“I’ve worked colleges a lot the last few years
and my favorite place is where everybody is my

comedy. “That just means there’ll be no props.
I won’t play guitar,” Price said. “I have a lot of
respect for stand-up as an art form. Everything
can be done with a stage and a microphone —
the ‘acceptable tools.’”
But Price has experience with more than
stand-up comedy. Besides his TV roles, Price
has tried out acting on the big screen. He
played the lead role Eddie in “Trick or Treat,”
a film about a heavy metal fanatic whose hero
dies, and he had major part in the Disney film
“The Rescue,” a film about a group of kids who
travel to Vietnam to rescue their POW fathers.
“I really love going out on the road as much
as I do Hollywood,” Price said. “Hollywood is a
second thing to me; it keeps my first love
(stand-up comedy) alive and well. And it makes
it easier to play to larger audiences. Still, I enjoy
making movies and learning the process of that
art.” .
Price is visiting College Station as part of the
Pontiac All-Star Comedy Caravan. The cara
van, which will hit 50 college campuses, is giv-
ing part of the proceeds to Students Against
Drunk Driving (SADD).
“I’m really happy to be a part of their organi
zation, and I believe in what their foundation is
trying to do,” Price said.
As for Pontiac, Price says his affiliation with
them goes back to his first car. “You know, most
companies name their cars after some kind of
fast animal or something — Mustang or Sting
Ray,” Price said. “Mine was a Pontiac Phoenix
—a bird that explodes every few years. The
logo for the car was actually a bird on fire.”
Price quickly adds that the car never did blow
up. “It ran forever,” Price said.
Price has promised a touch of local flavor for
his comedy routine on Wednesday, so it’ll be in
teresting to see what kind of jokes get made
about Texas A&M. Price says he’ll be checking
out the scene as soon as he gets here.
Price says he’s also pretty sure that his friend
Kevin West will be opening for him. West was
featured in the pilot episode of “Babes” on Fox
and has opened for comedians such as Louie
Anderson. “He makes me laugh, and that’s the
best thing for an opening act,” Price said.
“And having a buddy on the road for the
tour will make it easier to have a good time with
the audience,” Price added.
Price should be pretty f unny. He did our in
terview from the actual Time-Life free gift
phone. “You’re probably thinking the phone
they send you as a free gift when you order
something,” Price said. “No, this is the actual
free gift phone where people call to order
sometning. I’m sitting here with Janet, vou
know the woman who makes the commercials."
Price wouldn’t let me quote many jokes but
he kept me laughing on the phone.
“Misquoted jokes aren’t funny, and every
word is important in a joke,” Price said. If you
want to hear Price’s brand of locally flavored,
anti-gimmick comedy, you’ll have to check out
the show Wednesday night.
