POLICE BEAT
The following incidents were
reported to the Texas A&M Uni
versity Police Department be
tween May 2 and May 11.
INDECENT EXPOSURE:
• A man was arrested for
indecent exposure.
FIRE:
• Dunn Hall was evacuated af
ter a security officer notified the
department that he observed
smoke coming from the top of
Dunn Hall. College Station Fire
Department personnel verified
that the fire started in the first
floor trash chute. Residents re
mained outside until a represen
tative of the Health and Safety
Department authorized re-entry.
The cause of the fire is still un
known.
ASSAULT:
• A man was assaulted in his
Aston Hall room by another man
who tried to start a fight by push
ing him. The men had exchanged
words the night before during a
water fight. Both agreed to re
frain from future contact.
• A black truck struck a pedes
trian on the Band Drill Field and
fled the area. An officer respond
ing to the call for assistance
stopped the vehicle on Houston
Street and identified the driver
who was subsequently jailed in the
Brazos County Jail.
• A woman’s ex-boyfriend
threatened her with physical
harm.
ATTEMPTED SEXUAL AS
SAULT:
• A woman was the apparent
victim of an attempted sexual as
sault in Spence Park. The woman
said she met the man at a local
nightclub and he had offered to
walk her home and she accepted.
The man attempted to assault her
when they sat down under a tree
to talk. The attack was inter
rupted by two students who hap
pened to be in the area. The man
got up and started to run, but was
apprehended by one of the wit
nesses who held him until police
officers arrived. The man was
transported to the University Po
lice Department and discussed
the offense with a detective. The
woman did not want to press
charges and signed a non-pros
ecution affidavit and was escorted
to her residence. The man was
advised of her decision and re
leased.
TERRORISTIC THREAT:
• A woman reported receiving
a threatening phone call on her
answering machine from a man
who threatened to do her physi
cal harm because she failed to call
and wake him up so he could fin
ish a term paper.
ASSAULT BY THREAT:
• An Aston Hall resident advi
sor wished to file charges against
a resident for threatening him.
The RA has taken action against
the man on several occasions for
his conduct in the hall. Both men
said this has been an on-going
problem since the beginning of
the semester.
PLACES WEAPONS PRO
HIBITED:
• A homemade explosive de
vice was found exploded on the
southside of Crocker Hall.
MISDEMEANOR THEFT:
• A route salesperson with the
Bryarl-College Station Eagle saw
someone remove several copies of
the newspaper from a vending
machine. He confronted and
identified the individual who re
moved three copies of the Eagle
after paying for only one copy.
The man returned the copies that
he had not purchased. The
salesperson later told detectives
that he wanted - to file charges
against the man for the theft.
• A red/black Soei motorcycle
helmet was stolen from a motor
cycle parked in Parking Area 34.
• A black 1981 Kawasaki 440
LTD motorcycle was stolen from
the motorcycle parking area on
Coke Street.
• An Economics 203 test book
let was stolen from room 203 of
Harrington Tower. The man re
porting the theft said he gave
chase, but was unable to catch the
subject.
BURGLARY OF A VEHI
CLE:
• A Cobra radar detector,
200-watt amplifier, two speakers
and six cassette tapes were re
moved from a vehicle in Parking
Area 61.
• An Aiwa AM/FM stereo cas
sette player was removed from a
1986 Nissan pickup in Parking
Area 61.
• A Kraco AM/FM stereo cas
sette player, Kraco 60 watt equal
izer, two 8- x 9-inch Kraco speak
ers, a mechanics tool kit wrapped
in black plastic and a pair of Ray-
Ban sunglasses were stolen from
a 1977 Datsun 280Z in Parking
Area 56.
• An MEI AM/FM cassette
player, two box speakers, 30 cas
settes, two side mirrors, a black vi
nyl bed cover and a battery cable
were stolen from a 1986 Toyota
truck in Parking Area 69.
• An Alpine AM/FM compact
disc player. Passport radar detec
tor, two ADS amplifiers, MTX
speaker box, two pair of sung
lasses, 68 compact discs, two com
pact disc cases, a multi-colored
beach towel and a black bag con
taining mechanic’s tools were sto
len from a vehicle parked in
Parking Area 69.
ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
OF A VEHICLE:
• Officers patrolling campus
property observed an individual
attempting to burglarize a vehicle
with a coat hanger. The man was
jailed in the Brazos County Jail.
BURGLARY OF HABITA
TION:
• A pair of size 8 senior boots
were stolen from a room in Dor
mitory 10.
• A pair of size 10R senior
boots, a pair of brass knob spurs
and a Jansport maroon backpack
were stolen from a room in Dor
mitory 10.
• A compact disc and a cas
sette tape were stolen from a
room in Hart Hall.
BURGLARY OF A BUILD
ING:
• A JVC VCR was stolen from
a room in the Reed McDonald
Building.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF:
• A bicycle was found in a tree
on the north side of Hart Hall.
• Shoe polish was applied to a
vehicle in Parking Area 61. The
owner of the vehicle was con
tacted and said he did not want to
file criminal charges against his
friends. Both suspects were re
leased from the scene.
