Dr. Edward Aquino, who per forms some abortions at his clinic, filed a suit Wednesday against anti abortion leader Rex Moses and the Body of Christ Rescue. Judge Robert Blackmon of the 117th District Court signed a tempo rary restraining order Wednesday prohibiting picketing within 100 yards of the Aquino home until an April 23 hearing on a temporary in junction. It is the second time Aquino has taken anti-abortion protestors to court to stop picketing at his home. Aquino last year was granted a per manent injunction against South Texans for Life and was awarded $810,000 in damages. The injunction, which prohibited the group from picketing within 400 feet of the Aquino home, applies only to South Texans for Life. The case is under review by the 13th Court of Appeals Several neighbors have com plained that the pickets v iolate then privacy and shat they belong at Aqui no’s clinic, not at his home Moses said he plan, ed to mail let ters to about 20 of Aquino’s neigh bors to explain why he is picketing the home. “The reason so many children have died is because we have forgot ten them,” Moses wrote in his letter “My commitment is that they willk forgotten no longer. I am sorry for whatever impact that this may ha\t had on you and yom family. But neighbor Juan Saenz saida letter from Moses won’t sway bisk lief that the picketers have no bust ness in the neighborhood. “The picketing belongs in the of fice,” Saenz said. Moses has said he expected to lx sued and that he and his fellow pro testers are “judgment-proof in that they lack sufficient assets to be tab as payment for damages. T he doctor, represented by attor ney Tony Bonilla, is seeking an un specified amount of actual and puni tive damages. The suit alleges that the picketint “has raised the level of fear anti panic within the Aquino household to unbearable levels which is adver sely affecting the health of the chil dren and the well being of the fam- ity” L . Inmate makes device to prevent truck theft 5EACOVILLE (AP) — Joe Walker Jr., who is serving six years in prison for interstate transporta tion of stolen property, has devel oped a device to prevent interstate transportation of stolen property. Walker said he had to shop around to find an engineer to help with his invention — a device to pre vent truck trailer thefts. “I found him in the Yellow Pages,” Walker said. “I had called several engineers, but as soon as I told them where I was calling from they said, ‘Sorry, can’t help you.’ ” Walker, 34, was calling from Building 6, Room 215 of the Federal Correctional Institute where he’s had plenty of time to work on his in vention. He still has time for more work, too. “Eighteen months, 12 days, nine hours and six minutes left ... but who’s counting,” he said with a wide grin as he eyed his wristwatch. Walker and engineer T im Jensen have a patent pending on The Fra iler Guard. It is a steel semicircle that, when activated by a computer, rotates down in front of a truck trail er’s kingpin. The guard makes it im possible for a truck’s “fifth wheel,” the coupling on the rear of the trai tor, to connect to the trailer’s king pin and haul off the parked trailer In 1987, 177,807 trailers weresto- len at a loss of $8 billion, according “I I found him (engineer Tim Jensen) in the Yellow Pages. I had called several engineers, but as soonasl told them where I was calling from they said, ‘Sorry, can’t help you.’” — Joe Walker Jr,, inmate to the American 1 rucking Associa tion. Jensen said he knew little about the trucking business oi its problems with thefts before lie got the call from his would-be partnerlastAu gust.
