A&M junior running back Darren Lewis will be back for his senior
year of eligibility. Underclassmen had until Thursday to declare
for early entry into the NFL Draft in April. Lewis, who is spending
the spring semester at home in Dallas for personal reasons, did
not declare. He is planning to return to A&M this summer.
Rangers cancel games
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The
Texas Rangers have canceled two
Oklahoma City exhibition games
against the Cleveland Indians and
the Toronto Blue Jays, officials said.
The Rangers were scheduled to
play the Indians March 31 at All
Sports Stadium and take on the Blue
Jays the following day.
“The Rangers decided it was im
practical to travel from the East
Coast to Oklahoma City and then go
back again for the rest of the spring
training schedule,” Pryor said.
Players began a full day of work
outs Wednesday at a shortened
spring training camp in Port Char
lotte, Fla., with both sides in the 32-
day lockout relieved to be back at the
ballpark.
“Nobody cares what the details
are,” Rangers manager Bobby Val
entine said of fans’ interest in the
pact. “I don’t even carei
“They just want to see us play
baseball. Me, too.”
“I think the fans, like pretty much
all of us, wanted the thing to get re
solved,” he said.
The Rangers’ home opener prob
ably will be April 17.

lided with second baseman Trey
Witte. Robinson suffered a concus
sion and a broken upper jaw on the
play, and will be out indefinitely.
Freshman Brian Thomas has
stepped in, and has filled Robinson’s
spot admirably. He has sizzled dur
ing the winning streak, going 10-for-
20 and raising his batting average to
.421.
Designated hitter David Rollen
has been on a tear of his own. The
junior from Panola Junior College
has gone 10-for-21 with four dou
bles, a homer and nine RBI in the
last six games.
The Aggies bashed 21 hits in
Tuesday’s twinbill, led by Thomas’
4-for-6 performance. Centerfielder
Tim Holt was 3-for-4 in the nightcap
with a triple, and Chad Broussard
was two-for-three.
Holt said it was a good way to get
ready for conference play.
“It was a good time to get our
stroke down,” Holt said. “We’re
coming around, and hitting the ball
pretty well as a team. It’s a good time
for us to do it, now that conference is
coming around.”
The Aggies hold a 51-19 advan
tage over the Red Raiders in the se
ries which dates back to 1929. Since
1984, A&M has dominated Tech,
winning all 18 games and scoring an
average of 14.78 runs per game dur
ing the span.
Coach Mark Johnson will send his
three aces to the mound for the
weekend set. Sophomore Ronnie Al
len (4-1, 1.55 ERA) will start Friday
and Rich Robertson (5-0, 1.43 ERA)
and Pat Sweet (3-2, 4.61) will handle
the doubleheader.
