Paintings that normally hang in some of the lobbies and hallways now sit safely in storage. Otherwise, the tolerance level for disorder has risen with the noise level — it must be 'spring break, when college students rule the resort island. “We’ve got 23 people in two rooms. It’s kind of a mess,” said 21- year-old Scott Rudicel, who made the trip from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., for the third year in a row on Tuesday. Myndy Michaels, 20, another sun bathing Ball State student, said she and her sorority sisters had stayed “buzzed” for about 24 hours on drinks called “whammies.” “Padre is the best place to party because it’s not like a meat market and there’s no rules,” she said, “and this is my new bathing suit.” Noon had not arrived yet, but fresh kegs of beer were planted in the sand near volleyball nets. Bonfire (Continued from page 1) Bowling said he offered people a chance to come inside the student center and use the restrooms, but nobody did. “Bonfire is your business,” Bowl ing told the committee. “But I must ask you to contain the effects.” Supporters said this problem could be corrected by providing more port-a-johns at the bonfire site. Some supporters also said they would be willing to return to the site the day after bonfire and clean the surrounding area. Female supporters said there is no sexual discrimination in any aspect of bonfire, and they also did not feel in danger of being attacked while working on bonfire. One faculty member and 22 stu dents spoke at the hearing. How ever, time ran out before many peo ple were given a chance to be heard. Stout said anyone who wanted to speak, but couldn’t, should mail written comments to the Faculty Senate office or the student govern ment office. He said all written opin ions must be received soon. The committee is meeting after spring break, and will attempt to form an opinion soon after. “I can’t predict what the commit tee’s opinion will be,” Stout said. “I think most people realize this is not an all or nothing issue. It’s very com plex and emotional.” There were no major outbursts from the audience, and Stout sail the participants proved people 01 disagree without being disagreeablf “You’ve shown what Texas A&! is about,” Stout said.
