. ears ago, Bryan-CoHege Station’s status
as a retirement community was shattered when college students from
around the country discovered the miles of uncrowded beaches, cheap
liquor and uninhibited night life.
Now everyone knows that B-CS is the utopian mecca of spring
break paradise. The Battalion’s very own Damon Arhos spent spring
break ’89 in Aggieland and loved every second of it. Here’s his account.
Take it away, Damon.

Tired of hearing everyone talking about going to South Padre Is
land for spring break? Do you cringe every time you hear the words
Cancun, Cozumel or Ixtapa? Are your friends spending their spring
breaks skiing? Swimming? Sunning? Scamming?
And you still don't have any plans?
Well, take my advice. The place to be for spring break 1990 is right
here in the cradle of camaraderie, the middle of madness, the founda
tion for fiestas, that crazy, kooky party paradise: BRYAN-COLLEGE
STATION, TEXAS!!! And if you think South Padre is the place to be
this spring break, just take a look at my fun-filled, flamboyant and fla-
vorful photos from B-CS Spring Break 1989!
Flavorful Photo Number One: Bryan Utilities Lake. People from
all over the state and country came just to enjoy the surf, sand and sun
at Bryan Utilities Lake.
Known worldwide for its popularity, Bryan Utilities Lake offered
my friends and me a plethora of spring break pleasures. And as for
those swans, they should be fully recovered by the time this year’s festi
vities begin. We can all learn from their experience! Remember: Know
when to say when.
Flamboyant Photo Number Two: Kissing the parking stone. Re
member the legend of Ireland’s Blarney Stone? It’s pretty hard to get
to, but if you can reach it and can kiss it, you’ll have good luck for the
rest of your life. Well, our very own North Side Parking Garage has a
parking stone! It’s pretty hard to reach, but once you kiss it — you’ll
nave parking luck for the rest of your college career!
Fun-filled Photo Number Three: Skydiving from the top of Albrit
ton Bell Tower. What an exhilarating feeling flying high above the
A&M campus. And the view from up there was incredible! Albritton
skydiving is only offered during spring break, and it’s a B-CS exclusive.
Flirtatious Photo Number Four: Refreshments on the quad. Who
needs a beach when you can run down to the nearest department store
and pick your very own plastic baby pool colorfully decorated with blue
and green dinosaurs! Kiss the sand and tar goodbye and say hello to the
lap of luxury. (Don’t forget the lemonade and your arm floaties!)
Finally, Photo Number Five: Recovery. After spending nine fun-
filled and exciting days partying in that spring break sanctuary —
Bryan-College Station, you’ll be ready to recover before you start back
to reality. That’s when you can grab the old hammock (like I did) and
snooze away in the building of your choice! Sleep in a classroom —
snore, drool — let it all hang out! After all, it’s B-CS spring break ’90.
So if your bank account is lacking and all the reservation books are
full anyway, don’t worry. Everyone who’s anyone will be in Bryan-Col
lege Station for spring break ’90!
