Edwards
(Continued from page 6)
them will say, ‘Have you heard the
one about Edwards yet?’ ”
Edwards’ son, Macon Edwards,
director of computer services at Ar
kansas State University, said he has
researched his father’s past as well.
“When I checked into it, I just
couldn’t find anything to validate it,
and I know a lot of people who are
more competent haven’t been able to
find anything either. I believe the
claims that my father went to A&M
may have been politically motivated.
“1 know he was given to telling
some tall tales now and then — espe
cially around his war buddies. I also
know he thought highly of A&M and
held his A&M stories very dear. But
I just don’t think there’s any way to
prove that he definitely went there.”
There is no doubt Edwards w’on
the Presidential Medal of Honorar:
the Distinguished Service Cross, <|
accomplishment few can claim.
It has been suggested thai fc|
wards was simply a likeable, gi
lous man who sometimes eml
lished his stories as he got older.
What is questionable is wj
this man, who was listed in
pley’s Believe It or Not” for
most war decorations, ever attendi
Texas A&M University.
Believe it . . .or not.
