10 years ago — The A&M football
team upset Penn State on the Lions’
home turf. Scores of fans mobbed
Easterwood Airport to welcome the
victorious team back to Aggieland.
25 years ago — Representatives
from the Peace Corps visit campus to
recruit students for the Peace Corps
service organization.
50 years ago — Cadets learned that
a new moving picture theater in
Bryan was near completion. The
construction of two other theaters
also were planned for the Northgate
::rea.
75 years ago — The Battalion ran a
story announcing a contest for ca
dets to submit an original college
song for A&M. The story stated that
the college was 38 years old and
third in size among the institutions
of higher learning in the state, but
had yet to have a college song. The
rules were that a cadet could only
submit a song he had written, but it
could be original words adapted to a
familiar tune. The contest was later
called off because only one song had
been submitted.
