Harold Dean, supporter of the MDA and the event’s sponsor, said anyone may enter the con test, which will benefit the MDA’s research and patient service pro grams. “There is a $5 entry fee for the contest,” Dean said. “When they sign up, they’ll get an information packet and a ‘Flashtype’ mug. The deadline to sign up is April 25 at 10 a.m. when the contest be- gins. Dean said the contest will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Col lege Station Hilton’s Pecan Room. The first-, second- and third- fastest typists will be given plaques, he said. The person who raises the most money for MDA will win a trip to. Irving with hotel accommodations and tickets to Six Flags. Dean said contestants' bosses or f riends may sponsor them, or typists may sponsor themselves. “The way it usually works is a secretary will get her boss to sponsor her," he said. “They can pledge so much money per words per minute typed, but normallya set amount is pledged for dona tion. Someone could just raise money and not take the typing test, hut we encourage them to take the test.” Dean said typists will be timed individually. “Contestants will type a three paragraph letter,” he said. “Mis takes will take away from the score.” He said 10 typists have entered thus far, but he expects the num ber to double. Last year five con testants participated and about $600 was raised. “We’re hoping to generate more publicity this year,” Dean said. “Anyone who is interested can call 260-9194 or come by mr office and sign up.” Dean is the owner of Dean's Temporary Services, 402 Tar row St. in College Station.
